If this is true, I have no more reason to stay on the forums. This is the only construction project I truly cared about and wanted to see finished.

That would be one huge tree in the picture, otherwise.

That is very good news. So Kempinski won't send people into an unsafe building after all. Hopefully this means that the crumbling hotel will remain unoccupied

I kinda wonder how much Kempinski expected to gain on this deal anyway. Tourists don't exactly flock to North Korea, and Pyongyang has quite a few big hotels already. I'd guess most of the clientele of these hotels are politicians and statesmen from other regions travelling to the capital for meetings and such, but those still wouldn't make up a very large customer base. Unless heavily subsidized by the North Korean government, the hotel would struggle to make a profit. And direct business with the NK government is slightly frowned upon by pretty much every western country, and the current rethoric across the border doesn't exactly make things much easier.

Another story with more info:
http://www.nknews.org/2013/03/kempin...n-north-korea/

I guess the question is: Did Kempinski back out, or were they given new terms that were different or unacceptable? We can't know for sure, but I would speculate that the NK's were presented detailed plans of what and how Kempinski would develope and layout the facility and maybe they saw an opportunity to do it themselves! Juche!

or Kempinski was just afraid of a possible second Korean War that would destroy their facility at the building and lose all their money on it or they were just thinking about the fact that Ryugyong would never be filled anyway and NK market (what market ) is just too small.

If war begins, Ryugyong will be a great objective for the aircraft.
