Wow, the new coat of paint on all the buildings really makes the city look a whole lot less Stalinist.

Aesthetically speaking, Pyongyang looks nice. That doesn't mean I'd want to live there, though.

This is a far better picture unlike that old one with high contrast from the 90s that everyone shows around. Not bad for a country with no massive infrastructure routes that need to be lit up :

And here's an obvious photoshop by evil North Korea!

North Korea is the only country that saves energy during the night!
Look at all the other countries in the world wasting resources and damaging the planet.

Stalinist architecture is something along the lines of neo-classical. Maybe you mean socialist architecture, which is more modern than Stalinism.

I didn't say anything about Stalinist architecture, where did you see that?

I assumed your use of 'stalinist' means you were referring to stalinist architecture, especailly concerning the subject of apartment buildings. :\

Who's gonna stay in this hotel when the country is not even open to visitors? Dennis Rodman?

My goodness, it looks like we've found the answer, then! Poverty! Let's all go backwards and live under oppression to save mother earth.

I am waiting for you to volunteer to go first.

Zero and zero, respectively. At the moment, the interior appears to be bare concrete and plasterboards. It's only a hotel in name, as far as anybody knows. In practise, it's an abandoned construction site.

Though, it might open one day. Then, I guess you could get a number. With the current state of things, the number of planned rooms and suites is unknown, but likely to be far bigger than the demand in Pyongyang calls for.

I wish it had started a bit earlier so that it could have been completed before the Soviet collapse which led to the construction halting.

It's not abandoned as Orascom said they would fit out some lower floors to use themselves. Also, the completion of the tower's interior is probably at a much higher extent than the bare lobby suggests, since Kempinski worked on it for quite a while before they quit.

How exactly do you know what Kempinski did do and didn't do during the time between its initial announcement and its abandonment announcement? Also, according to information released, it didn't invest into the hotel, it only wanted to manage it. SO what exactly is this "worked on it for quite a while"?

Also, how do you know that the building isn't an abandonned construction site? You have any photos? For all we know this building might very well be on hold. For a building to be kept in the construction section of the forum there should be some evidence that the construction is still going on and the building has not become on hold.

Or it could be that nobody cares about this thread. I'm a horrible architecture critic because I can't say anything bad about a building, except for Makkah and Sky City, which are monstrosities. This building isn't really a pure monstrosity, just a little ugly.

The point is, not everyone likes this building (I think it's been called a monstrosity). And even if it wasn't ugly, we don't have many Koreans here who can speak English that know about this building.
