Why do people in the forums have such hate towards North Korea? This is a forum about skyscrapers. In absolutely every thread about North Korea or PyongYang there are people who won't stop spamming. Even the PyongYang city photo thread was made only for the sake of arguing. - "Pregnant women, old people and the disabled are not allowed to live in this city" Come on, Even the Balkan forums are quieter.

Wont the mods do something about it? Or am I free of making a New York thread - Where plains fly into buildings, and homeless people run naked. ???

I think you are exaggerating a little. Name one hater (except the obvious one) on last few pages on this thread. I think most people just want discuss it in civilized manner, although I agree the car subject was a little offtopic, but it wasn't me who posted those pictures. I just got curious and investigated it a little. Just saying in case it was me who you were referring to

If it can endure a winter storm or a minor earthquake without apparent damage, it won't fall down under normal operations. If it had been weak enough to collapse "randomly", as in, without any external forces acting on it, it would have collapsed in a strong wind or a minor earthquake when forces were in action. It's not like it waits for a suitable occasion, if it falls it will be because some load limit is exceeded. A collapse requires a trigger point to be reached, either by the loads exceeding what the building can withstand (i.e. strong wind, earthquake), or because the building is weakened until it can't withstand the forces acting on it (i.e. fire, or gradual deformation caused by creep).

Yes, a building can have "hidden ruptures" and hairline cracks and all that, weakening it to dangerous levels, but as all buildings are designed with a certain redundancy, the hidden damages would become very visible before the entire shebang comes down. Significant sagging, creaking coming from the building, minor structural elements failing, cracks widening for days in advance, etc. A building on the brink of collapse will clearly proclaim its failing state, to the point that you wouldn't be allowed to enter it, not that you'd want to anyway.

To put it short, it's next to impossible for a building to go from "fine" to "heap of rubble" in shorter time than it takes to evacuate, without some great appliance of external force. I wouldn't put heavy machinery into the building, or for that matter open a hotel without knowing more about the state of it, but entering it wouldn't be that dangerous if you just look where you go. If it were on the brink of collapsing, a few telltale signs would appear long in advance. The weight of a person would hardly make a difference considering the enormous loads from wind and seismic activity.
I agree that there would be signs before a "selfsufficient" collapse, however my main fear is about the things you said, minor earthquakes, minor hurricanes and minorr structural element failure. From what I know the building has never experienced anything but minimal earthquakes and winds and the problem is that it possibly might collapse in minor earthquakes or hurricanes which safe buildings could withstand without problem. In these cases there would be no long term decay of the structure that would warn the occupants.

Also in the case of a "selfsufficient" collapse, there might be enough warning before the building would collapse as a whole, but even before such a collapse a floor slab or two (a minor structural element) might fail and kill a few people occupying the floor below it. These are my main concerns.

Nope, no pics of the interior of the building itself were ever released. The only interior photo ever to be released was from the lowrise podium next to the building

then all the skyscrapers in the new york were built at the cost of the suffering of exploited workers during america's industrial revolution.
...and all the skyscrapers in the west were built at the cost of the brutal subjugation of the rest of the world under its exploitative economic order...

fuggedaboutit!

this is a architecture website about skyscrapers, not a politics page for you to spew your ill formed opinions. go save the world with your bleeding heart comments on youtube or something!
