You have a point there. Perhaps people should try to separate architecture from politics. But actually those two things aren't separate things.
In the end, you shouldn't ignore people TRAPPED and DYING because of one crazy dictator.

It just depends on how "Nazi" the mods/forumers want to be.

To bad we can't the other 2 sides of the building on the recent pictures.

Because on these nice fireworks pictures taken in May 2009 it clearly shows the progress on 1 side but even more the lack of progress on the other side.

so what's the progress on the back sides right now?
I thought the outcome will be ugly.. But I'm wrong!

Can a mod please delete every single post related to political bullshit?

At least it's wonderful to see that we have so many members of SSC who are able to but political BS aside and just appreciate this building for what it is. I hope at least some of us will get the opportunity to visit NK and see this building with our own eyes at some point.

By the way, did you ppl know that for several years, Hote Ryugyong was not officially mentioned in the Pyongyang guides? It was as if it did not exist
by the way did you know that telecom tower in london was secret from 1965 until 1993? it did not appear on any maps!

An example that has not been mentioned, but which is so trivial that it is worth mentioning, is the absence of the British Telecom tower from Ordnance Survey maps. I hope that I am covered by parliamentary privilege when I reveal that the British Telecom tower does exist and that its address is 60 Cleveland Street, London."

I had actually never thought of it - Pyongyang must be the best large city in the world to do some stargazing without the need of any equipment, given the total lack of artificial lighting.

According to reports I read written by people who visited the country, Pyongyang hotels are mostly empty with the exception of very few rooms and only the occupied floors are lit - if Ryugyong suffers the same fate, it will be very difficult to spot at night.

Gorgeous tower in a well-planned city. Too bad, as a member as pointed out before, because this is in NK people could feel free to throw all kind of negative bs into it.

And that will continue until the country will see the light and decide to take an example out of Vietnam and become a normal country again.

There was this picture of a billboard that was posted.

It looks old, although they may be channeling early 90's chic.

from the first time I saw this building it blew my mind. Now I'm sure I was not mistaken. Its getting better by the day. this building is beautiful, its futuristic. its got a history, its got a soul (as some said in a previous post)... I think some people should put away all the political and ideological judgments and admire this building as great piece of design. The city looks, green, clean, looks nice and best of all no billboards!!

The picture shown on the link you posted shows exactly what I thought a trip to NK would be like. A security officer on a desolate bridge in the middle of nowhere protecting nothing...in the winter. Very amusing.

If you spent the same amount of money visiting Moscow, I think you would have a much better time. Lots of skyscrapers to see. Better yet, how about Munich. Oustandingly safe and lots of museums. Or Hawaii. Or Tokyo.

Point is: Better places to spend your hard earned money.

This hotel is fantastic. When will it be finished? When is the GRAND opening?

Everybody! This is THE SITE about skyscrapers, NOT POLITICS! NOT KIM JUNGIL!
If you really want to bash North Korea, Go some other sites, not here!!!
Do you want me to repeat this again and again?

North Korea have the right to build anything on their soil
As far as I know, this hotel is being built by foreing capital, not from the money of the poor in North Korea.

The more forein capital invest North Korea, The freer society become.
