The city looks very clean and tidy. The roads seems to be good quality and well maintained compared to most cities in the world. It's quite green as well. The electricity supply seems better than I expected, maybe improved in recent years.

However still there's no car...nor do I find people...where is everyone?

Orderly and clean? Yes. Low traffic and congestion? Yes. BEST LOOKING? No way.

The Ryugyong hotel, if completed, will look spectacular and would probably fit it to most other big cities very well. Here however, it seems like the ONLY modern design. Everything else is a boring box. IMO

I wonder how this will effect Orascom and the Ryugyong facelift?

That's the truth, but isn't complete.
The price paid by the population for those great points is the complete submission to the dictatorial govern, so isn't a great deal.

Modern? Dude, get your eyes checked. Tokyo, New York, Hong Kong, even Shanghai - those are modern cities. 50 year old commie blocks are *not* modern by any definition.

I don't want to go into why it's car free...there are a couple of reasons, but then I would have to make this a political post.
I know what you mean with modern so I agree with you, and they are not modern, but really they are modern at least by one important definition, the "modern architecture" was born in the 20's, and the commie blocks are the result of that architecture.

The funny thing is that I learned the true definition of modern architecture once I looked at a mate's textbook (he's studying architecture) I was like WTF and after that started to revise most of the stuff I understand about modern architecture.

The shadows are perfectly correct. The photo is wide angled one.

I'm well surprised, glased exterior looks quite good, building is almost like from some sci-fi movie Btw,has there ever been published or taken any photos of interior? I mean anything,no matter how old the photos are. It would be interesting to see internal structure condition.
