only if there were a single pic of the interior. But let's just hope that the interior pics will surface on Flickr or any site.

Ofcourse it looks ugly without its cladding.
And it stayed that way for over 16 years now you see my point

The new cladding looks good. Very "East Asian"--and by that, I mean it looks like a lot of buildings going up in Taiwan, Korea, Japan, etc. I'm not too crazy about the little horns near the base, but other than that it's a good design. That's to say nothing of the politics or economics surrounding it--that picture a few pages back with the crumbling city bus in the foreground is surreal--but we're here to talk about architecture, aren't we? And to be honest, I like it.

So because it has been under construction longer than most buildings its more ugly now? If thats not what you are trying to say, I don't get your point.

If thats the rule I'm sure that makes the Freedom Tower in NY one of the ugliest buildings in the city.

very nice building i hope N.Korea can get more investment from outside countrys like China

I think if N.Korea opens up it would get so much investment so fast it could turn into a modern country within a decade, Japan, South Korea and China are very powerful nations which could drive its progress and alot of N.Korea has infrastucture in place

I do not think that this will be so easy. There are deep wounds in the North Korean society which will not be healed quickly. It will take more than a few generations to forget starvation, police terror and the every day insanity common in this last remnant of stone-age communism.

Who wants to place a bet on the date when the tower collapses? For me it is still amazing that someone really dares to finish it.

I use to think that this tower having a structural failure was a strong possibility if they decided to outfit the interior (which will add tons of weight).

But they clearly fixed the concrete... The external balconies that were crumbling away and looked downright scary, now look clean and exactly as they should. Of course this is a judgement based only on the pics available (and there are quite a few more now that are out there), but I am willing to bet that these issues for the most part are ironed out. I really dont think they only fixed the exterior without touching the interior.

I have a feeling that they will outfit the podium, and maybe a few floors above it, and the top portion where the restaraunts are supposed to be. In the future when restrictions within NK eventually ease up, they will probably then look into outfitting the rest of the structure and using it as a hotel or possibly a mixed-use building. The podium looks huge, and we have to take into account that this is a 3 winged building - Perfect for a nice large casino which would attract all kinds of foreign money. This base probably takes up the space of a large casino in Vegas. But with over 100 floors, the sucker has a whole lotta floor space!

I find myself very curious about the internal transportation - How many lifts, and what company they will end up going with? If they will just build a few lifts in the building to get by until they outfit the rest of it. Obviously there has to be a construction elevator, but I wonder if they have installed anything internally yet? I would love to visit this country one day... it would be one hell of an experience to find out things and experience them for yourself instead of listening to the endless bullshit that comes from the media in most countries (especially where I live)...

Unfortunalty when you go to NK as a tourist you won't be able to go where you want, they control the trip you make, what you get to see and who you talk to.

This is a nice read for you: http://www.1stopkorea.com/index.htm?....htm~mainframe

lol they just started construction again after 16 years they haven't been worker on it that long. And if they leave 1WTC unfinished standing there with no work being done on it, for 16 years. Then damn right it a be a eye sore. And I said they're cludding it because it was a eye sore. key word being was, now Its starting to look ok.

There's so much I've heard about this tower that turned out to be rumor and speculation, so I'll just sit back and enjoy watching it get finished.

I agree they'll probably only work on the important parts of the interior first (podium, top of tower) and maybe part of the hotel section, with the rest being completed over time if the demand is there. At the moment though, it wouldn't be economically viable to have a hotel that size in Pyongyang as there aren't enough tourists. Yet.

After the building's concrete structure hardened, it was discovered that elevators would not be able to operate in its poorly designed shafts. Now that the building is being finished, should there be any working elevators inside? The shafts may be one park of the construction project, and a skyscraper can't not have any elevators.

I am not betting on that, if they managed to bring down 3 steel-framed buildings with internal cores just with the jet fuel, then this can be collapsed by merely looking at it

what is the point of constructing this tower? Isnt North Koreas tourism like almost non-existing? Is the tower going to be renovated inside or they are just reconstructing the outside?

I dont really see the point of constructing this tower in the first place when the whole country is like living in Auschwitz.

Yea only that jet fuel had nothing to do with the collapse of the WTC....

Construction started 16 years ago, at that time there was more communism and so more potential tourists for them.
Why they finish it? Prestige! To show the world! To show its own people! and many more reasons.

And you might wonder, why did the Egyptians build pyramids? Why did the French build the eiffel tower? why did Dubai have to build an 800m Burj Dubai? You'll find the answers to be the same as to why NK builds this "hotel"!

Nor does NK and nor does the Ryugyong Hotel!
