i think that the building would be ok if it wasn't so clunky at the top.

A Hypothetical Pyongyang Vacation

I would very much like to go to Pyongyang if only for a visit or an overnight stay at Ryugyong Hotel. It's looks so interesting.

I'm really curious as to the hotels interiors. I mean, wouldn't it be great if the interiors look chic and post-modern despite its brutalist exterior. And, who wouldn't be interested in some North Korean small screen entertainment--what with only a single government-controlled station and all.

They are making deals with outside companies, and they have some Chinese support (and obviously clothing). But like doing business in any country where the government controls everything, it is probably very risky business. How much you wanna bet the NK govt will push Orascom out after the Ryugyong is finished, then use thier technology to set up a cell phone network of thier own?

Wait, did I just get drawn into an off topic discussion again? I promised I wouldn't.

Koryolink is owned 75% by Orascom Telecom and 25% by Korea Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (the state post and telephone company), so the North Korean government does get a significant share of the revenue.

one of the most unique and impressive constructions today. no question about it.

I see that some people never want to see something beautiful or unique built in a third world or "repressive" country.

btw, anyone has renders of the original project?
I want to know how was it supposed to look in the first place, and if the current work is what they had planned, or if they've made changes.

One of my favorite aspects of this building is the clunky top that some people seem to dislike.

I heard Kim Jong Ill has them as posters on the wall in his bedroom. You could send him a tweet and ask.

You're are right -- as with all things Dubai, it's concrete shells must be bigger and more abandoned than the rest of the world!

The irony. As much as I find this hotel interesting, it has got to be the biggest empty shell in the world.

Let's get back to Pyongyang now.

I am right there with you on this one.....I love the whole tower. And no it would not fit in Dubai, the lines are way too stark to blend well.
