That white structure behind is Rungrado May Day Stadium, the largest in the world (capacity 150,000)

I would so like to go there and take a few photos myself, alas, I don't think they will give me permission to travel to North Korea and right now it's a bit more dangerous than usual anyway.

This building is being completed by Orascom, an Egyptian telecommunications and construction company.

Was discussed some pages back.

Yes, but Orascom is taking a huge gamble. They are investing untold millions to complete this structure, and they hope the return on investment is monthly cell phones bills for every North Korean. The contract is only valid as long as the people (government) say it's valid. What will happen when the tower is finished and the telecommunication equipment is installed, up and running? Only time will tell.

They must be very confident - relying on the NK government to stick to that agreement is a huge gamble.

I did discover that Orascom is a huge cement producer - that is no doubt where the expertise came from for all the concrete repair work.

More than that, the Orascom group includes construction and property development companies as well as telecoms and information technology.

This propaganda tower ("Look people! North Korea is the greatest nation in the world!") & their nukes ("hey you outsiders, if you ever attempt to save people dying in hunger in my country, I'll nuke you) are what keeps NK, a shame of humankind, still exist..

And, these two things only work together because North Korea is a completely closed country and no resident is allow to travel outside.

I don't know why people still insist on calling it a hotel, it will never be used as a hotel, the interior will not be finished. It's being clad, and turned into a cell phone tower.
