Yet still, being bigger, more beautiful and more sofisticated doesn't mean anything if the carpark are still like the one at pasar malam.

Btw, as for the KIA, I think AA is now using Gate 8 & 9 because there are not enough boarding gates to cater the low-cost carriers.[/QUO

How many times have u been in KKIA ? Don't be blinded by your semangat kenegerian..KKIA is 3 times bigger ..and remember in KK alone there are two airports..international and low cost airport ..cheers mate...
I've been to KKIA T1 twice. I felt the area (in term of width) is not so big compared to KIA, and yet, less crowded. Maybe passenger volume is too much taken over by KKIA T2.

Even with that condition, they're going to split T1 into domestic and international some more. I can foresee more wastage of space at this terminal, while people in T2 are flocking through their way just to get a space to stand up.

I don't mind having bigger airports, coz I think KKIA deserves that... but the most important thing is how well-managed the airports are. You can have 2 airports, but it's useless if one is too crowded till u can't catch a breath, and another one is too serene and kosong so that u can have all the air in the world to breath. Personally I think, T1 is enough to cater for KKIA thriving aircraft movements. There is no need to have that reban ayam T2 for the low-cost.

yes im from kuching, but personally, i think KIA have better shop compare to KKIA T1..KKIA only look modern from outside, but quite empty inside.as i ever said in my previous post, KIA single terminal handle arnd 3.5mln a yr while both KKIA T1& T2 hndle 4mln ++ means each termnal only handle ard Rm2mln ++..business wise, offcourse KIA win..

The initial plan was to built BKI T1 much bigger, and more high-tech where luggage are scanned after check-in like KLIA. In the end, maybe due to budget constraint, the plan was scrapped.

The number of Gates are also reduced from the initial plan. Now the number of narrow-body gates stand at 5 and wide-body is at 4 (Gate 2 - 5). Same as KCH. KCH serves more domestic travellers while BKI caters to most Northern Passengers like those from Taiwan, Japan, China and Korea. It is rather unfortunate that KCH loose out to BKI in terms of DIRECT International Passengers.

This CNY alone, Korean Air operated 747-400 while China Eastern flew direct to Pudong using the 320. Not to mentioned that Asiana flies to BKI and not even KUL making it the 2nd destination apart from SIN.

Apparently Kuching is not attractive to Koreans.

Here are some pics of the on going renovation in KCH.

Control Tower getting a make over.

The reason AK using Gate 8/9, the apron at Gate 1-3 are being resurfaced.

KIA n KKIA control tower design is not interesting la.... nampak biasa2 saja uuhhuhuhuhu.... as international airport, the architect should blend local architecture element to make it iconic! the terminal + the cladding nampak hebat but control tower design is biasa2.... KKIA 1 terminal pun nampak grand but control tower dia 'ketot/comel' n nampak biasa2... hmmm diorg xmau design control tower KLIA dikalahkan kah? keekekkekeke

Last night I finally managed to see with own eyes KCH check in area with lights on - it's true, the whole place very orangey yellow, almost sunset like effect ! Same with the arrivals area after customs clearance

What an unconventional comparison !
Unit pax vs RM values ?!

Despite all that, would you bother comparing pax volume, say BKK vs LHR T5 ?

As long as the tower is functional (communication systems, radar etc. work) and can handle flights, then I have no issue of KKIA tower design being bland...

typing error...not rm2mln but 2mln passengers..each KKIAN trmnal handle ard 2mln passngers while 1 single KIA termnal hndle 3.5mln..so bsns wise ofcoz the more the passsngers, the more the businss..its logic
