Eventi Promises Art, Music, and a 'Food Parc' When it Opens June 1

March 1, 2010

Quote:
Sometimes new hotels have modest goals—to provide a warm bed and perhaps a meal for the night. Then there are the more ambitious hotels who want to go further than that and wow us with all sorts of amenities. With a name like The Eventi, it’s probably no surprise that New York City’s next Kimpton falls on the ambitious side. More than just a bed, it vows to bring guests art, music, and food. Lots of food.

When it opens this spring—or on June 1st (the first date you can make a reservation)—Eventi will reveal a permanent installation by digital artist Barbara Nessim. One that measures 28 feet, spanning the height of the third and fourth floors of the hotel.

Other artistic touches will included a “mysterious curiosity cabinet” (this reminds us of the one lining the staircase in Woodward restaurant at The Ames), and more artwork from Nessim displayed in the guest rooms.

In a press release, the hotel’s GM Thomas Mathes said:

"Eventi will be a place that feels alive, with a heart beat that pulses with creativity and sends energy to every corner of the hotel.”

And over on Facebook, a note tells us that "Thomas’ dedication to service perfection is rivaled by that of his passion for music, a key 'live' ingredient at Eventi."

We’re guessing this live music will take place in the hotel’s planned outdoor public plaza, with its fancy 20-foot multimedia screen.

And about that food? The China Grill-operated restaurant should open when the hotel itself does, but the lower-level 20,000-square-foot “Food Parc” and bar won’t open until the fall. We’re not sure what goodies will be available here yet but it sounds like a higher-end food court, with counter, table, and outdoor seating in the plaza.

Rooms at The Eventi start at $284 a night from June 1st.

A sneak peek of “A Current Past,” which will hang in the Eventi lobby. The lady at the bottom looks a bit like Lady Gaga, no?

Too bad for me that the whole complex won't be able at the end of June when I'm there!

Looks like something went wrong with the cladding in the middle of the construction so they changed I don´t like this one.

Eventi Lights Up Dead Stretch of Sixth Avenue

Thursday, April 15, 2010, by Joey

Quote:
Eventi, the 54-story hotel/rental apartments/futuristic food court tower opening at Sixth Avenue and 29th Street in May, is relying on more than its size to attract attention. The Kimpton-run hotel has started lighting its lower floors every night with multi-colored LEDs.

A construction worker even told The Real Deal that the building has the capacity for a rotating light show projected onto Sixth Avenue, though that still wouldn't make it the craziest hotel lighting display in the area. Beyond the night lights, much of the building's street-level scaffolding has come down, giving passersby in what some would generously call Chelsea a peek into the under-construction lobby.

Eventi projects neon spectacle onto Sixth Ave.

April 12, 2010
By Sarabeth Sanders

Quote:
The West 29th Street tower dubbed Eventi made a neon splash onto Sixth Avenue when its nightly LED lighting display kicked off on the hotel's second, third and fourth floors last week.

The 54-story Eventi, which opens May 14 under the Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants brand, will light the base of the building every night "the same way the Empire State or Rock Center does," according to a spokesperson for the hotel, who would not reveal the price tag for the building's new glow.

A construction worker at the scene said the system has the capacity for a rotating lights show that will be projected onto Sixth Avenue.

That was news to Community Board 5 District Manager Wally Rubin, who declined to comment on the display.
