Ajit,

There seem to be some mistake here. What you have posted is definitely not Vizhinjam or even Trivandrum coast.

Have a look at the Google Earth images and see the marked differences.

http://picasaweb.google.com/ramnair5...86585657155506

Also the second break-water seen to the top left (if you are right this should be the Vizinjam beach) proves that this is not Vizhinjam-Kovalam coast.

Best Regards & Seasons Greetings

Ram

It's kanyakumari. You can make out the railway line ending at Kanyakumari terminal.Gandhi mandap and other multi storey hotel buildings around. The break water and other structures can be made out. Check with any sat image websites.

Is this clicked from a flight of colombo or Far-east origin.

Yes,I accept the mistake. It is the Kanyakumari Coast
A closer look in the other picture gives the view of Vivekananda Rock & Thiruvalluvar Statue on the top-left.
The top breakwater the one near Kanyakumari beach and is near to Vivekananda/Thiruvalluvar Rock.

Cargo Hub in Trivandrum

AI to build cargo hub in Kerala

Air India will build a cargo hub in Kerala as part of increasing its freight movements from the country.

The hub would be developed either in Thiruvananthapuram or Kozhikode, said K.M. Unni, Air India (AI) Board member and head of the airline’s engineering department, at Calicut International Airport, Karipur, on Thursday.

Mr. Unni said the cargo hub would go a long way in enhancing the carrier’s freight movement from the State.

He said a study of the cargo movement potential would be done before finalising the destination.

However, Mr. Unni hinted that the cargo hub will most likely be built at the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport.

Project for pedestrian facilities hits roadblock

http://www.hindu.com/2010/01/02/stor...0260540300.htm

Thiruvananthapuram: A proposal mooted by the city Corporation to construct foot overbridges or pedestrian subways at four crowded locations in the capital has failed to take off due to uncertainties in completing road development works.

The Corporation budget for 2009-2010 had earmarked Rs.1 crore to provide the pedestrian crossing facility at the Medical College junction, Statue junction, General Hospital junction and the area in front of the Cotton Hill School. Civic officials said the project had to be put on the backburner, mainly because the works taken up by the Kerala Road Fund Board under the City Roads Improvement Project (CRIP) were bogged down.

“We cannot afford to construct the facilities and then have them dismantled for road development. With no deadline yet for completion of the road development works, we have been forced to postpone the project. It is unlikely that it will be taken up this financial year,” said K.O. Asokan, chairman, standing committee on development.

In the case of the Medical College junction, Mr. Asokan said a preliminary study had found that the construction of a pedestrian crossing facility was not feasible.

“There is no land available on either side of the road for construction of a foot overbridge or subway at the point near the casualty wing where most pedestrians cross the road. Building the facility nearer to the junction would mean that pedestrians would have to walk a good distance after alighting at the bus stop near the KHRWS payward. The reported move to relocate the bus stop farther towards the Ulloor junction is another factor that has made the proposal impractical,” he said.

Mr. Asokan said the junction development schemes announced by the Thiruvananthapuram Development Authority would also make the construction of pedestrian crossing facilities unviable. “With the schemes likely to be cleared by the government soon, it does not make sense to construct permanent structures by the roadside.”

He pointed out that the new pedestrian-operated traffic light system installed before the Cotton Hill School had obviated the need for another facility.

A study conducted by the Corporation in 2007 revealed heavy pedestrian traffic on all the major road corridors in the city and the neighbourhood of hospitals and commercial and educational institutions.

Areas with critical pedestrian density included Chalai, Railway Station road, VJT Hall, Statue, Power House road, Palayam, East Fort and Cotton Hill School.
