Id be interested at what kind of lighting is needed for the Lucas Oil Stadium - for seats and ground. It'd also be good to know for how long per day the shadow is a nuisance, what the air circulation is like, and whether the grass can grow comfortably on its own...

As for appearance, so far my vote would go to this ground.

its not grass, its fieldturf, and i assume that the lighting is no different than in any other stadium.

That's right!

The official opening was on 7 September 2007 and hosted a friendly between Austria and Japan in front of 26,500 spectators.

I think it was already mentioned somewhere that the Arena was not completely finished by then?

It was finished in 2007. The thing that was mentioned was the minor remodellings that took place right before the European Championship in spring 2008. But such remodelling takes place in any EC or WC stadium, no matter when it was constructed: you have to enlarge the number of media seats, regroup the other seats etc. But one cannot call a stadium unfinished if it is already fully in use and even international matches taking place...

This picture is from September 16th 2007. The stadium is operational but it's clearly not "finished." If the upper tiers were completed by the end of the year then fair enough, drop it from the poll.

@JYDA - Your picture of Wörtherseestadion is misleading. It pretends that the upper tier has not been built yet by showing exactly that small part of the upper tier that was not completed in september 2007.

Here are some other pictures from the same date:

http://flickr.com/photos/lembagg/1396184533/
http://flickr.com/photos/jorti/1408077527/
http://flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/1374462944/

There were games with 25'000 spectators at this time in september 2007. During the EC in june 2008 it was up to 32'000, but now in 2009 the capacity is reduced again back to 22'000. The additional seats for the EC were only temporary.

I think Mo said there will be also a stadium of the year 2007 competition? Then this stadium could run in this competition IMHO.

The competition is for stadia that completed construction during 2008. Whether it was an upgrade or newly built venue is not of importance.

you're the boss but it's a little bit tricky to have such criteria because every stadium in the world has some sort of upgrade every 5 years or so - so most stadia could take part in the competition and it wouldn't really make sense anymore

Well, most stadia were not nominated.

POSTED BY MO RUSH!
"Completed, implies that stadium construction and overlay e.g. completion of suites/sound systems, are BOTH complete. Ideally, the stadium would have hosted its first test event in 2008 or before 31 December 2008."

IN THE SPIRIT OF THIS COMPETITION HYPO SHOULD BE REMOVED OR THE WHOLE THING IS A MOCKERY!!!

Sorry Mo rush but totally disagree and this competition is null and void until hypo is removed and those votes cast are re cast or discounted. Totally agree with railcity.

Who agrees?
