Eden is good, no doubt. Otherwise it had not made it to this semifinal. But IMHO Maribor has a better, because unique, design.

My vote went to Eden. It's good quality, good materials and good views and facilities for the spectators. It incorporates the positive aspects of various other stadiums and combines it into one, creating something that could be a prototype for many others. And it is really a NEW stadium.

The Maribor stadium is a good example how much can be achieved upgrading an existing stadium with few means. Good job! But it would be somehow weird to have it as stadium of the year.

This Taiwanese stadium looks great. Like a shedding snake. But it will be a contender for the 2009 competition.

At the major-league level, only Nationals Park and Lucas Oil (and RSL's Rio Tinto) opened last year.

Most of the new sporting venues opened in the United States and Canada in 2008 were indoor arenas, which do not apply to this competition in particular.

Shame it wasn't finished in time, otherwise it would've run away with this year's comp.

Now it has to go against Jerryworld.

Did the architect pay royalties for the concept or the inspiration? Very very similar to that of Riazor renovation plan.

Can someone upload the pics of Ljudski vrt Stadium before renovation so that we can compare? Personally I have some objection to nomination criteria of the competition. I think we'd better not include renovations. Only newly constructed or totally reconstructed stadiums would matter, IMO.

Only western stand was renovated. Other 3 are completely new.

Before it had athletics pitch, now new stands are on its place.

So this is basically completely new stadium...

The only similarity is that the roof continues outside of the stadium. If that is already to be considered counterfeit... Toyo Ito and Peter Eisenman are both great architects.
By the way, I got some more examples for you
(Southend Utd)
(stadium by one of the authors of worldstadiums.com)
(Yves du Manoir, Montpellier)

But Dnipro Stadium is slightly older... And infact I don't agree entirely. The main stand is different, the roof as well, and of course the facade doesn't bare the slightest resemblance. A lot of stadiums nowadays are built with this same basic shape: one, maximum two big tiers all around, and the VIP facilities, skyboxes... in several floors on top of the main stand.
