You are an honorary Canadian now, Dr T, so you have to get used to the cold winters! You can practice down in Florida by bundling up and sitting in a walk-in freezer for awhile!!

May I suggest you post some of those Chinatown pictures in this interesting thread? I think they would be most welcome! link:

It is pretty exciting to see all this new material coming from Vancouver, and focusing on street level day to day activities. We are seeing Vancouver through your eyes and enjoying the ride!

not too many people go to vancouver chinatown nowadays as compared to like the early 2000, even during weekends. the reasons..from my personal observation is that (1) a considerable number of chinese went back to their original country ( I don't see most of my chinese friends and acquintances anymore) (2) most chinese prefer to shop in Richmond (a suburb where chinese is the majority) due maybe to accessibility and free parking. the number of shutting stores in vancouver chinatown is increasing..it's really sad.

It's a shame. I remember Vancouver's Chinatown (and San Francisco's, too) from as far back as the 1970's. Used to be bursting at the seams with activity.

I haven't been in Gastown in years. Back in the 70's/and early 80's it was a very trendy place and a big tourist attraction. Last time I went it had slid downhill quite a bit and was a little shabby. How is it today?

Well I guess Water street (pics 116 to 126) hasn't changed. it's still the same touristy area with sidewalk cafes, restaurants, souvenir shops, carpet stores and it's so crowded during summertime. The area between chinatown and gastown which is downtown eastside (pics 107 to 113 partly) is really a depressing sight with all those drugies and rundown buildings (east hastings). I haven't have the courage yet to walk along this street and take some photos. I might.
