[LV] Latvia | road infrastructure • Latvijas Autoceļi

Latvia / Latvija

Big traffic volume map of Latvia
Big traffic volume map of Riga

-----

I have looked at the threads related to Latvia and Macedonia hoping to find the answer to my question there, but it is not clear from those threads.

I would be very grateful if anyone can tell me the colour of roadsigns on the motorways in these two countries. In particular what colour is the background of the sign, the text and the border.

If anyone has any photos of typical motorway signs in these two countries too I would be very interested in receiving those.

I am involved in a project where we need to know this information.

I am really impressed with this site - I have learnt a lot about motorways from the various topics in this part of the forum.

Many thanks in advance.

Dave

Many thanks but still not clear about Macedonia

I am very grateful for these replies, however if you look at this thread http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=476243
In the post by Chrizwolle there are two photographs showing signs - the first which is the 6th photo down shows a green sign - but this appears to be an expressway rather than a motorway. The second photo (with snowy mountains in the background) further down looks more like a motorway and features a blue sign !

So I am confused about the signs in Macedonia - on motorways are they blue or green? The other thread that was referenced by keber is great but doesn't clarify this either for Macedonia.

Thanks once again, Dave

all former Yugoslavia had green signs on motorways, i'm telling you this from the first hand blue signs were for main roads. at macedonian roads there is a little bit messy situation, not clear signing yet, but motorways are green 100%.

this expressway - some parts of main motorway in Macedonia (Serbia - Greece) are built without sos lanes (older parts). you can find it in Italy or Germany, too, and it is still motorway.

this blue sign - i have no explanation for it, probably it's near end of motorway.

What's the fastest road between Riga and Saint Petersburg, if you don't go through Estonia? I suppose it wasn't handy (especially for trucks), when there was still control on the Latvian-Estonian border.

I suppose that the two hours you'd spend at the Estonian border doesn't matter considering the week that it takes you to get into Russia

All Baltic countries entered Schengen, so no border controls at all.

Now there isn't but Verso is most likely talking about the period when it wasn't like this yet

Anyway, the fastest route avoiding the Narva border crossing would probably go via Pskov and then north.

Thanks for splitting the old thread, Chris! But could you please change a bit the thread title, like, Highways & Motorways in Latvia | Latvijas Autoceļi!

Obviously, but how to get to Pskov in the first place? Is there any short detour of E77 around Estonia, or you have to go all the way to Rēzekne?

I doubt that anyone would want to skip Estonia but if someone really do then he might use regional roads P39/P40/P42 and go through Alūksne town.

Yeah, without border control with Estonia the A2 is much straighter and faster.

Are those roads "driveable"? I guess trucks still went over Rēzekne?
