Sure, he weren't! It's just the current situation that spoils mostly everyone's mood! Let's wait and see, maybe the unlikely case with Riga becoming an important metropolis would happen and then..

Regarding Seaside Magistral - I really know how the things are. In "thick years" Riga could spend 60 - 70 mio EUR on street development - but now these years have gone. Southern magistral costs some 700 mio EUR (10 "thick years"). Eastern magistral will cost some 500 mio EUR (some 7 "thick years"). Northern Corridor will cost some 900 mio EUR at least (some 12 - 13 "thick years"). Yearly street maintenance costs at least 40 mio EUR.
See yourselves - here we are somewhere at 2050 already - at best. In 2050 we can start thinking about next large projects. May be it will be Seaside magistral - but most likely - Western magistral or Hansa bridge which are needed a lot more. So wait for Seaside magistral approximately until 2070.
The only exception - if Riga becomes a lot more wealthy. What now, with current demographic tendencies, seems impossible.

Sadly, but this sounds kind of true if regarding current tendencies!

But here's news: During one year after speed cameras appeared in Latvia (they were all put onto Riga region roads) more than 100,000 speed breakers were fined, thanks to them!

Oh yeah!

Btw, I think I know why we left sandy roadside, so that grass couldn't grove on the road.

There will be a bypass for Bauska!

Bauskas bypass project is at public consultation currently. And there are three variants planned, they are divided into following bridges:
1st - The longest road of all three variants, new bridges over Lielupe and Mēmele rivers.
http://www.bauskasdzive.lv/resources...20variants.jpg

2nd - The shortest road of all three variants, new bridges over Mēmele and Mūsa rivers.

3rd - New bridge over Lielupe and Mūsa rivers.

Land where the planned bypasses are located, is in a natural park territory, so there could be some problems for purchasing land. Frankly, the shortest variant will be approved, because the longest are always expensive and they need a lot of land. Draft design will start as soon, as which one of the variants will be choosen.

Also, Iecava will get a bypass, there are also three variants, but the public demand a fourth variant , because there are also land problems. Most likely, Iecava will have a Eastern bypass.

Latvia is in a weird situation where whole generations have grown up without building NEW roads in new places - except for some smaller exceptions. In public hearings of new roads people really believe that new road is the Evil himself.
