Hard to tell, many sources say it will be the same as Saulkrastu bypass.

Whaaaat?? That means it will be worse than Kekava expressway? I don't see any logic here. Then people will drive through Kekava anyway, and the new bypass will stay empty.

Well I'll try to find true information on this in the nearest time and will post it here, but one thing is for sure, trucks that will go transit, won't be allowed to drive through Ķekava town any more, it will be directed to the bypass.

I'm going to St-Petersburg but I thought going through Narva is a must when approaching from the direction of Kaunuas. I was wrong, as it seems now!

I thought so

Thanx a lot!

Map24 says Kaunas - St. Petersburg via Daugavpils = 770 km, via Narva = 840 km.

I'd choose the route through Narva, though....Estonia definitely has better roads than Russia. Especially since route nr3 went through a major reconstruction in 2006. Which means around 85km of route nr3 has practically perfect pavement quality. And the traffic density is also low...around 1500-2500 AADT.

I also selected a better ride through Estonia, because there certainly are better ways.

If not talking about Russian road police with those unstoppable bribes, than it would be way cheaper if going through Russia because of the length of the route and petrol prices! That's quite a difference!

Here's the answer from "LAD" website:

Ķekavas apvedceļš no tā izbūves sākuma, kas ir esošā autoceļa A7 Rīga-Bauska 10,1. km (aptuveni Rāmava) līdz esošajam autoceļam A5 Rīgas apvedceļš (Salaspils-Babīte) būs divbrauktuvju ar divām braukšanas joslām katrā virzienā, bet no esošā autoceļa A5 Rīgas apvedceļš (Salaspils-Babīte) līdz apvedceļa izbūves beigām, kas ir esošā autoceļa A7 Rīga-Bauska 24,46. km (aptuveni pirms Ķekaviņas tilta) būs ar vienu braukšanas joslu katrā virzienā. Būvdarbu veikšanas laiks pašlaik plānots 2013. - 2016. gads.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, as I understood, the bypass will be 4-laned from A7 (Riga-Ķekava) road till A5 (Rigas bypass) and from A5 till A7 (Ķekava-Bauska) a 2-laned road. I made a map, of how it will look:

Red: 2+2
Blue: 1+1

Construction works currently planned in 2013 - 2016.

Why can't they build the entire road 4-laned? Land purchasing problems? I don't see any logic here, traffic intensity is quite high there to build a 2+2 expressway (15,000 and 2000 trucks), ok, almost a half of them will go forward to roundabout for Salaspils, but still it's high, and those are only 4 kilometers.

Yeah, the speed limit is very disappointing, apparently the signs are only before exits, so I think the speed limit on Ieriķu-Vietalvas part between exits will be atleast 70 km/h. And I wouldn't wanna walk on either side of that sidewalk so close to a 6-laned highway, they atleast could come up with a barrier or something. But that's just a video.

Being just a video it makes a really big positive impression! Way to go! So many fly-overs and junctions! Love it!

Many thanks for this info, it makes sense now! But, yeah, still it's quite weird that they don't plan to make 2+2 those 4 km too.

That's quite strange to me as well, though I understand why there are no plans in building those 4 km a 2x2 highway - probably due to the fact that all the rest road till LT border will remain 1x1!
