Great to road infrastructure improvements in Riga. They are really huge and neccessary. Anyway, could be great, that the rest of Latvia would also receive some big projects.

It was informed today that the third stage of Southern bridge might be constructed a year before it was planned, so it may be finished already in 2011, though only if the government will allocate the necessary funding, about 17 millions Lats.

Not government but city.
So city got asked for 14 million EUR (not 17 million lats, that's total cost for completion)... city thought a bit and gave... 1,8 mio EUR.

We got a crisis, you know.

Technically Slavu overpass will have 4+4 lanes, but only on overpass itself. See in picture:

^ Oh, too bad.. What's the sense then constructing all this if it might become unfinished and abandoned, having not resolved any traffic jams' problems..

^ That's quite interesting to see, all is so clearly told! But why still nothing is clear with Eastern highway Ieriķu-Vietalvas section, the whole over-pass would become quite useless if that part will not be built in time!

Gatis already mentioned in Riga development thread, construction will start next year. All parts of Eastern highway will be finished in 2012.

Eastern Highway

Hi everyone!

I'm new in this forum.
Some things about Eastern Highway.


Yesterday I noticed that there is a call for procurement of the Eastern Highway continuation of the already built in the streets (Zemgala gatve) by Viestura prospekts. Everything should be ok, ONLY looking at the draft explanatory memorandum can be concluded that everything will not be as shiny as this should be (for those 15 minutes, there is no congestion, etc.).. There, says that the road traffic oragnization after whole project will be done based on the assumption that it will be built in Riga-Skultes railway pass or Tvaika streat and Viestura prospekts connection. It is currently stuck in due to lack of funding, both in his time, Riga City Council founded SIA "Transporta infrastruktūras attīstība" who was responsible for money raising for this project, money laundering and omissions, and is back to who knows for some time. Therefore, after completion of the E-highway there still will be another traffic jam,organized by cars and trucks which will go from S-Daugava to Vecmilgravis, because no longer immediately after the level crossing will be turn left into the V-prospekts (Port direction), but they will have to go to the next adjustable junction with traffic lights on it, where the pass left will be only one band. Easier to understand this situation can be downloading the project from RDSD home page ( http://www.rdsd.lv/?ct=iepirkum ). Maybe someone knows better about this situation?
P.S. There is a fragment of explanatory memorandum translated by Google Earth: ".....An examination of traffic organization of principle be designed variants of Eastern main intersection with Viesturs prospectus, it was assumed that by design the East motorway construction will be carried out in connection with a prospectus Viesturs and Tvaika street Sarkandaugava streets......"
