Nice to see the most smashed section on "Via Baltica" reconstructed.

The sections on either side of Kekava were, in my opinion, the worst of the Via Baltica. I believe the Latvian authorities intentionally left them in poor repair in order to increase pressure for the Kekava Bypass. I last drove that section one month ago and there was no visible construction or preparation for construction.

Believe me the A5 part on the dam was by far the worst part of Via Baltica

Since many other countrie highway topics are being cinstantly updated with a road construction map, i figured i might as well do it for Latvia. If someone can correct me somewhere please do,

Let's keep in mind that "Via Baltica" doesn't go through Ķekava town. But, there is a part before the roundabout that's in bad shape, I would rate it as the second worst section on "Via Baltica". Luckly they will repave this section of A7 next year.

There won't be any activity on this project at least for the upcoming 2 years.

How does Via Baltika look like in general? Does it have 2x2 sections?

Thanks for the map Ripley
Ill use on my next update, though it probably will come next year, no new road construction in winter.
Anyways, a little trip i made today,
A6 - Ikšķile - Ķegums
P85 - Ķegums - Tome
Some V road - Tome - Baldone
P89 - Baldone - Ķekava
A5 - Ķekava - A8

MAP:

A6 in Ogre,

Speed limit here was 50 - 70 kmh

Ogre ends about here, and A6 turns from 2x2 to 1x1

This part of A6 was reconstructed this year, though the speed limit here is 80kmh. Didnt realy undersatynd why

Getting closer to Ķegums, the pavement here is alot worse than before, but speed limit raises to 90kmh. This part is going to be reconstructed next year.

Now we are in Ķegums, the road on the right is P8, which leads to Sigulda

Straight: Jēkabpils, Daugavpils
Left: Jaunjelgava, Bauska
We will be turning left

Road leading to Ķegums HES - terrible !

The road on the dam itself is alot better, speed limit 30kmh

Turning left, to Riga

P85, speed limit here 90kmh

Speed limit on this corner - 70kmh

Decided to turn to a gravel road which leads to Baldone I must say it was very nice, the unharmed nature and forests were just amazing

Now after Baldone, is P89. Speed limit 90kmh

Now the Via Baltica (A7) part someone was talking about before, just before roundabout in Ķekava.

Just before, the roundabout the road turns from 1x1 to 2x2

On the roundabout we turned to the right - Riga bypass (A5)

After that, we drove until A8 and the turned into Riga

Often, fresh pavement is slippery in rain. Road surface must have a high enough drag coefficient - maybe this stretch did not conform to the required level.

The pavement either gets coarser over time, topmost layer of bitumen wears off -- or if not, it will be paved over with chip seal next summer

Anyway, a very lovely pictureset, a wide range of different roads. I would have loved to see some more views of signage as well...
