I think this is the first time we use such bendings.

4)Pedestrian bridge over K.Ulmaņa gatve (A10)
5)Bicycle path Mežaparks-Vecmilgrāvis
6)3rd stage of Southern bridge project
7)Jugla street continuation
8)Vairoga and Gauja street fly-over
9)Slāvu fly-over
Good video.
Southern bridge is 3+3, flyovers and new bridge probably as well. It is good to built them for the higher traffic volume, in Bratislava we built motorway ring 2+2 and we are seriously facing capacity problems now.

Since my old pictures of A8 Jelgava-Riga (they can be found here:http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpo...&postcount=151) are dark, blurry, wet... crap, I made a small trip to Riga today and took pictures of A8 again and other local important roads.

A8/E77 Jelgava - A5/E22 Riga bypass

A8 highway connects my hometown - Jelgava (4th biggest city in Latvia with 65,000 inhabitants) and the largest city in the Baltic states - Riga (717,371 inhabitants). The distance between these two cities are 42km. On A8 I drove only 32km today.

Ok, so we start. This is a street in southern Jelgava called Lietuvas šoseja (Lithuanian highway) and it leads to A8 highway, quality is obvious. A Lithuanian city Šauļi (Šiauliai in Lithuanian) signed because the highway leads to Lithuanian border.

We turn left to Riga and it's the begining of Jelgavas bypass.

Left Riga, forward Lithuania.

We are on A8 now. A short 2+2 section.

Smooth.

Approaching roundabout.

Jelgava ends before this roundabout.

It's a two laned roundabout and a turn to Forest cemetery.

We exit here.

We are on the right track. This part of the bypass was built in 1996.

Highway is getting crappy here.

Rest area after 400m.

Bridge over Vircava river.

New pavement is needed here. Approaching bridge over 9th longest river (119km) in Latvia - Lielupe.

Lielupe.

Approaching first 2 level crossing.

If you turn right, you must choose where to go - Jelgava or Iecava.

After that crossing, another 2 level comes up. Smoothness comes back.

1st class road P93 to Iecava. Railway Jelgava-Krustpils goes parallel it.

Exit to my neighbourhood. Here should start a 2+2 highway, but back then there was no money to finish those other two lanes.

Distance sign.

Although this roundabout will stay here forever. Another black spot made.

Bridge over 5th longest river in Latvia - Iecava (136km).

For now, traffic-lights are off.

Riga - 31km.

2+1

2+2 dual carriageway starts. Sign indicates that construction works are ahead.

Installing new and shiny crashbarriers. Damn, I hate this green smiley.

This is what's the fuzz about, a new pedestrian bridge is being built here.

A new U-turn.

Riga region map.

Motorway.

Olaine city with 15,000 inhabitants.

Turn to Olaine.

A short 3+3 section.

Entering Jaunolaine (Newolaine) town.

Only crossing in Jaunolaine.

The town ends.

This one was built in 2007.

New village.

Approaching Riga bypass. Estonian capital signed. We are turning right.

Tallinn - 343km.

To be continued...

A8/E77 Jelgava - A5/E22 Riga bypass

E-77 is going through Latvia? I am really suprised.
