Really? Guangzhou (along with Shenzhen) seem like some of the least whacky big cities in China.

I guess I have a very low threshold for wackiness. But you're right, the vast majority of the highrises appear to be very conservative. There's just that cluster of taller towers -- the bulby one, the one with the step pyramid spire, etc. -- that I find pretty clashy.

Anyway, I really just meant it to illustrate how impressed I am with the two tallest. Those are going to be timeless designs.

Some "people" find it more "attractive" if the buildings/skyscrapers look some what "alike" in a CBD. But for some people like me, I like varieties in CBDs. Esp this one. Personally, I believe that the IFC (the bulby one "I think) doesn't look that great in the CBD or itself. Here are all the proposals for the East Tower. http://www.upo.gov.cn/plan2007/ggjzsj/792_2.shtml

I think none of them are great compare to CTF and if they were twins, it would have been awesome but I like 9 and 10.

Hey all,

I'm curious about the final height of this tower: On the thread it says 530m, but living in Guangzhou I have seen lots of signs near the construction sight which list 539m as the final height. Which one is correct?
Also, are there any other supertall projects planned for Zhujiang New Town?

To answer your question, I hope it is 539m and that's the height in Gaoloumi, but for some reason it says 30m here. I have no idea. And I believe most of the plots in Zhujiang New Town are completed and if not all the rest are u/c. there wouldn't any more supertalls in this CBD, but look forward to financial city and pazhou close by.

The CBD is intended to form a kind of symmetry on both sides of the park in the middle when being observed from either North or South. The plot that is 'reflecting' the Leatop Plaza is empty to this day and if they follow the idea of the plan then there should be a supertall or at least something close to it being a supertall.

Whole bunch of lowrises in the way of the vista are likely ripe for demolition.

539m could be the height above sea level, though i'm not sure of course.

The 530m figure was taken from section drawings. If the height is now 539m, there has been a design change that I did not know about.
