Imagine in the next 20 years when IFC and Pazhou is all built up and this skyline will be...

well i do think Guangzhou's skyline currently is better than New York's, in 20 years it is hard to say, especially with so many project in New York as well. But yeah city against city is really subjective. So it is rather pointless anyways.

the skyline is pretty awesome, no doubt. but better than NYC? Not for me. Also, NYC is totally different to Guangzhou.

That is the view from Baiyun Mountain where you can take a cable car to the top. Would be interesting to see some hiostorical images from there (say, since 1995 or so)

This is how it was a year ago. Anything's missing?

Btw, once looking at this image I suggest to note the number of supertall skyscrapers and other tall buildings. Very few cities in the world can actually rival that. Dubai and a couple of others perhaps. This skyline is absolutely remarkable.

One thing that makes Chinese urban skylines look different from American ones (something that was a definition of a skyline until not too long ago) is the urban context. Unlike American skylines, Chinese cities do not have tall skyscrapers only in the downtown/center. They are surrounded by numerous tall buildings which can be anything between 20 and 40 storeys high, mostly residentials which can go all the way to the outskirts of the city. This somewhat reduces the contrast between tall and less tall buildup which is why when looking at pictures like this one it is not so easy to instantly understand that we're looking at 8 or 9 supertall skyscrapers in one picture. It might take a little bit of thinking to actually realise what a beast this skyline really is.

Yes, it was very fast. Already the IFC next to it was already one of the fastest rising supertalls on earth.

Most of the tall buildings around CTF, like CTF, Global City Square, etc.

Yes I took the cable car. It's a popular tourist spot there. Must be one of the best locations to see the skyline.

Thanks, so it's easy to find this panorama after taking the cable car? I'll be there in October.

Any idea what this empty space of land is going to be used for? Don't think its a building, a park maybe? Looks like a wasteland right now.

Yes. You need to get to this area (Yuntai Garden) with a bus. There is a big bus station and many bus routes from various parts of Guangzhou. Once you're there the rest will be self-explanatory.
