hmm i'm not sure about the new design. at least the tower is tall, maybe it will turn out well once finished. guangzhou is making huge progress, i'm really happy for the people there.

Hmmm - it's not a bad tower, I even quite like it, the Chinese are getting the hang of calming down their tower designs (unlike Dubai for example)... but looking at the two side by side, I know which I prefer.

the tower for itself is very cool, but comparing it to the west tower it just doesn't fit, if you have the picture of two twin towers in your head. i guess i just have to get used to the idea of letting go of the "twin tower design".

^ the twin tower design was cool but not for this application. The two plots are too far away for a twin design to look good, they had to do it this way and even still there is a gap in the skyline.

the reason that the "twin" towers are so far away from each other is because China has very strict wind velocity requirements regarding new buildings. That's why Chinese CBDs like Shanghai Pudong - although somewhat "ugly" from a formal viewpoint, and unpleasant to walk through because of vehicular traffic - are actually physiologically quite comfortable.

cool, i never knew that, well at least there are benefits of having a layed out cbd. At first i thought that the twins would look nice but thinking about it, it might be such a bad idea after all, since this new one isn't too bad looking. I must say though, to have twin towers this far apart, only designs like the west tower can pull it off, if it was 2IFC or Jin Mao looking, i don't think two of those, no matter how close or far they may be, it still won't work.

Would you be able to tell me more about the wind velocity requirements? I guess the idea is that they want the buildings to be more energy efficient?

this has already been designed ages ago, there's a huge square between the twin towers and the buildings on both sides.
