This, IMO, is the nicest tower in mainland China.

Outside of NYC and a couple select developments here and there in the US China is absolutely demolishing everybody lately. They are over building like Dubai in a way but their choice of architecture is amazing. Dubai has a couple nice towers and then hundreds of complete garbage ones which makes for a joke of a skyline. Here in the US NYC is churning out tons of really nice developments but for the most part everybody else is just putting up bland glass. I don't understand why they can get new school so right and everybody else is kind of just going through the motions. Most of what they are building is just glass clad tall towers but they are putting the effort in to make them something.

It obviously is not on the same level of quality as the art deco era but it almost feels like a new school version because they are really putting in the minor details over a grand scale to create some truly amazing buildings. I don't feel like these Chinese skylines overall are better than the US because they built so much crap in the past it is kind of beyond that (minus Hong Kong), but when looking at the individual towers they are building now they are really getting it right when it comes to building in the 21st century.

Another part that is dramatic to witness is that any random nobody of a city in China is still throwing up huge towers that look incredible. I don't understand why some of the other bigger but not world class cities in the US cannot do this. If some random ass city in China is throwing up quality why cant a city like Indianapolis, Seattle, Houston, Atlanta, any of these lesser cities on the US level do the same?

China is undergoing an urbanization the scale of which the world has never seen. By 2025, China will have added 350 million urban residents to its population (more than the entire population of the U.S. today), and five years later will have a total city population of more than 1 billion. That will boost the portion of its gross domestic product produced by cities from 75% today to around 95%, estimates the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI).

To house all those new urban residents (240 million of whom will be migrants from the countryside), China will pave 5 billion square meters of road, add up to 170 mass transit systems, and build 40 billion square meters of floor space. All told, China will have 221 cities with more than 1 million residents, and eight megacities, each with a population of more than 10 million. The Chinese government is hoping to pull off the unprecedented urban transformation with a special emphasis on ensuring stable and equitable cities, said delegates at the World Urban Forum held in early November by U.N. Habitat in Nanjing. "Building harmonious cities is our vision," said Jiang Hongkun, the mayor of Nanjing.

=======================================================

Urbanization in USA already finished. Most of the cities in USA except NYC has very few skyhigh projects as these cities population are stable and very few office buidlings need to be built to cope with the urban development.

In 2010, Guangzhou population is 12.7million. And in 2015, Guangzhou population has reached 16million. In 5 years time, this city population has increased more than 3 million, equals to Chicago's population.

That is why so many skyhigh office and residential buildings need to be built to cope the urbanization and population consumtion demands.

Aesthetically, Guangzhou is my last favourite big city in China. Too many clashing architectural styles. Some buildings are nice but together they remind me of parts of dubai...

Only if you don't include 1WTC's spire. It also depends on how high Goldin Finance 117 is right now. When that finishes it should be taller than this one. Oh and Seoul Lotte tower will also surpass this with it's crown.

Some Guys here has discussed about the Boom behind the Skyscraperprojects in China and if US Citiys in the outside from New York can go the same way.

Here is an article about the Reality behind the Booms around the world with Focus of China but it is the same in the US or Europe.

That is a gorgeous tower. It's not overly flashy, and has a nice simplicity to it.
