I guess foundations take less time in Guangzhou compared to Shanghai since GZ isn't built on a swamp!
I'm not sure if I like the spire actually. it might look good with two, one each side of the very top, but I think this is a building that would look best without a spire, besides, I hate 'cheating'

haha , welcome to china where everything is possible. construction occurs at the speed of light compared to other countries (well maybe the UAE with dubai are the real and only competitors)!

Wrong. Guangzhou is very swampy too. The foundations go faster due to smaller footprint and the fact that there is already more supporting infrastructure directly next to the sites (ie, roads, rail lines, etc). In the case of the ST, the foundation hole is a good distance away from roads, and has alot more unsupported soil.

I honestly don't care if they add a spire or not. Not like they are shooting for a record or anything with this one. A spire would look quite nice if they were to add on.

Guangzhou is swampy too? OK, well it was a guess.

what other cities are swampy?

nowhere near as big as the Shanghai Tower's hole, but still pretty big.

Any cities located on river delta are generally soft soiled and require extra precaution for foundation works.
