i was thinking the same as you. It seems that it will have steel structure.

Why?

These steel beams will be covered in concrete. Mayby same as ST outer super columms or WTC1. This method is faster as the ordinary.
For my taste, it look's at the moment too skin, to support a 500+ supertall.

I don't think they will put cover the colums with concrete. Which function would have it?

In concrete structures, steel is needed to support all efforts produced for the wind, for example, not to support the weight of the tower (the weight is supported by the concrete). But if the structure is only of steel we don't need any concrete.

In this building the section (area) of the steel columns seems to be enought to support the weight too. Even it is a 500+ building, little sections of steel can support it. (For example, ESB, the old WTC and sears tower were built with steel structure, no contrete).

But, nowadays, this is strange. Concrete is cheaper tan steel, that's why all towers now are being built with concrete. I think the want to do a skinny core to profit the area of the tower, not like in shanghai tower, that his core is so massive for my taste (little inhabitable area in each storey).

In this tower, we see so much steel columns, so they can't put concrete in the structure the different mechanical properties of steel and concrete. You can´t put compression resisting steel with compression resisting concrete. All the strenght would go to the concrete and in would broke.

I'm in fourth year of structure engineering. I would explain you more, but my english is bad

As a fellow engineering student, I understand what you're trying to say.

However, if you look at some of the close up shots of the steel, you can see the shear studs, suggesting the steal will eventually be embedded in concrete.

The steel inside the core is just a replacement for rebar. In this high buildings you will need massive amounts of rebar. In this case i think it's quicker to build with steel colmuns and plates. They can be prefabricated and put up quicker so buildingspeed is higher.

Concrete covert steel is much stiffer than only steel. So this buildings sway a lot less than ESB and other only steel structures.

The massive amount of steel we see in the photos reminds me of the Shanghai Tower which as we all know is embedded in concrete. I would think they'll do the same thing here.

And we most likely will see those massive plates and columns used once again in the ping'ans construction.
