Students can use pass on sundays
Bangalore:July 26, DHNS:

Students with concessional bus passes can avail bus services on sundays and holidays too. Transport Minister R Ashok said the move will help students to attend tuition and special classes held on holidays and sundays. Ashok said orders to this effect will be issued on Tuesday morning.

Hitherto, students with concessional passes could avail bus services only on working days. Ashok said students with the passes will also be permitted to travel in Pushpak, Suvarna and JNNURM buses.

In another move that would benefit students whose academic year start post-July, bus passes will be issued for a full 10 months from the date of issue. Hitherto, bus passes were deemed to be valid for ten month starting from June.

Ashok said the State government will soon implement its promise of providing learner’s driving licence to students right on their campus.

Under the new system, RTO officers will hold license-issuance camps in select colleges at frequents intervals.

Licenses will be issued on the spot to those who pass the driving test.

Volvo fares slashed

MYSORE: Traveling by ultra-luxury Volvo buses has become cheaper in the city with Mysore urban division of the KSRTC reducing the fares.

The daily pass priced Rs 60 has been reduced to Rs 50 effective Wednesday. Between Mysore and Mandya, the fares will be Rs 40, which is Rs 10 less than what was announced.

NWKRTC is operating Meghadooth A/C buses between the twin cities- Hubli-Dharwad.I am cent per confident that it would be the most profit making route,as many engineering and medical colleges alongwith govt offices that are located all along the 23 km old PB road.Hard to believe how fast the twin cities got merged.

There are volvo services from Gulbaraga and Bidar to Hubli-Bangalore.
I feel Volvo service between Hubli-Dharwad is the most profitable intra city route,believe me hubli-dharwad is changing for the good,thanks to BJP.

Mysore-Mandya volvo service has been introduced and am delighted.


Hope our govt first thinks of uplifting the people of north east karnataka,when they cannot afford for Volvo services what is the point in introducing such service??

Steel development in Bellary and cement industries of GIM should help there.. Time to wait and watch.

Railway development is taking place in that region. KSRTC should give concession in bus fares where train service is not available.

Gulbarga high court wont help in thier socio-economic upliftment.Hubli is in north west karnataka which is quite developed after the south and coastal belt.Developing Hubli wont help North east Karnataka,people there are a frustrated lot,the most neglected regions of the country,neither the state govt has done anything nor the Union govt.
Gulbarga- Bidar must balance the north east karnataka region,Hubli wont help.

Bellary is now doing quite well,few more steel industries will help the helpless farmers to give up farming and take up industrial jobs.North east karnataka belt is highly rich in minerals,if mined legally and processed in India itself.
North Karnataka will easily beat any shit IT/BT industries of the south.Karnataka is losing nearly hundred thousand crores in the name of illegal mining.Imagine if that amount goes into developing north east karnataka,how gifted the people of that region would be.
Only hope rain god must smile on those drought hit regions of NEK.

Hassan bus terminal to be inaugurated on August 15

17 drivers presented silver medal and cash prize

HASSAN: The Rs. 34-crore hi-tech KSTRC bus terminal in Hassan will be inaugurated on August 15.

He was delivering the welcome address at the 49th Foundation Day function of the KSRTC.

On the occasion, the former Minister H.D. Revanna honoured 17 drivers with silver medal and cash prize of Rs. 2,000 each for accident-free driving in the last seven years.

Mr. Basavaraj said the Hassan division of the KSRTC had 2,390 staff members. It earned a profit of Rs. 7.1 crore last year.

The division had earned a profit of Rs. 1 crore during first quarter (April to June) of this financial year.

He said inter-State services from Hassan to Kottayam, Thrissur and Palakkad in Kerala and to Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu would be started after August 10. Mr. Revanna suggested to KSRTC authorities to provide free sites to award-winning drivers.

Hassan City Municipal Council president Ambika Ravishankar, zilla panchayat president Kamakshi Raju, MLAs C.S. Putte Gowda and H.S. Prakash, and MLC Patel Shivaram were present.

Hi-tech bus terminal to be opened in Hassan

Hassan, August 3, DHNS:

The citizens of Hassan have a reason to cheer. The work on the new bus stand has been completed and it is likely to be inaugurated August 15.

The hi-tech bus stand will one of the unique, the biggest and most modern bus stands among the tier-III cities in country. It has been constructed at a total cost of Rs 34 crore, said Divisional Controller Basavaraj here.

He told reporters on Monday that the contractor who has got the tender for the construction of the bus stand, will hand over the facility to the KSRTC in about 10 days. We have plans to start the services from new bus stand on Aug 15, he said adding that the division is awaiting a green signal from the Corporate office.

He said the bus stand has unique and most modern services. About 88 buses can be parked in the platforms at a time, while the bus stand has a parking area for 250 buses. It will have commercial annexe, a post office and hi-tech toilets.

He said road leading to the bus stand is yet to completed. There is a proposal to widen the road near the railway crossing to provide a broadway link to the new bus stand from the city. The existing city bus stand will also continue to operate. It will be used for city services, the Divisional Controller said.

Target

Basavaraj said the KSRTC Hassan division has set a target of Rs 8.5 crore profit for the financial year 2010-11. Last year, the division netted Rs 7.30 crore profit. In the first quarter of 2010, the profit stands at Rs 1.95 crore.

Presently, the division has a fleet of 565 buses and 2,390 employees. Ten new buses will be added to the fleet for Kerala and other inter-state destinations, he said. The city services will also be strengthened in the coming days, he added.

‘Mercedes Benz buses of international standard will be introduced in the State’
‘Old bus stands, depots to be modernised’
Madikeri, August 5, DHNS:

The government is providing basic facilities in all bus stands and depots in backward taluks by spending Rs 75 crore based on the recommendations of Dr D M Nanjundappa report, said Transport Minister R Ashok.

Addressing reporters here on Thursday, he said old bus stands and depots in all backwards taluks will be modernised. Rest rooms, toilets and other facilities will be provided in bus stands and depots, he added.

Ashok said that the department has sent letter to the Karnataka Public Service Commission to fill 100 vacancies of Brake Inspectors. The problem of staff shortage will be solved once the appointments were made, he added.

DL through colleges

“Initiatives are being taken up to speed up the driving licence distribution through computerisation. The department has a proposal of issuing driving licence to students above 18 years through their institutions. The scheme will be introduced in institutions in Bangalore in the first phase and later it will be started in other districts. Student organisations were demanding the government to distribute driving licence through colleges for the past several years. Students can obtain driving licence without any hassles once the scheme was implemented,” Ashok said.

Ashok said that the KSRTC, which has 22,500 buses, will soon introduce Mercedes Benz buses of international standard in the State. The Corporation has bagged 2 international and 4 national awards besides being honoured with Chief Minister’s Ratna Award. Giving maximum facilities to passengers is the motto of the Corporation, he added.

Talking about the unhealthy competition going on between private bus lobbies and the KSRTC in Kodagu and other districts, Ashok said, “lobbying by private bus owners is not new phenomena in the State. The KSRTC was not in a position to face the challenges of private bus owners lobby earlier. However, now the Corporation is strong enough to compete with private bus lobbies.”

The Corporation was facing difficulties to introduce buses in Mangalore for the past 30 years. However, currently 12 Volvo buses are operating from Mangalore depot, he added.

New dist-in-charge minister?

Transport Minister R Ashok has assured that he will hold discussions with Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa with regard to the demand of appointing representative from Kodagu district as the District In-Charge Minister.

Ashok gave the assurance when media persons brought to his notice the fact that Kodagu District In-Charge Minister Renukhacharya had not visited the district even once after assuming the charge.

One-day bus pass for Volvo buses
Mysore, August 6, DHNS:

For the sake of commuters between Mysore and Mandya, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is all set to launch daily bus pass facility to travel in Volvo buses from Saturday (Aug 7).

In a press release here, M N Srinivas, divisional controller, KSRTC, Mysore Division said the corporation has been issuing monthly and yearly passes for general public. Now, it is launching daily pass facility for general public that too in travelling Volvo buses. The bus pass is priced at Rs 90. The pass holders could travel in any Volvo bus on Mandya-Mysore-Mandya route. Using this, they could travel in Volvo City buses from anywhere in the city and then get back to Volvo Buses to Mandya.

No replacement

He clarified that no replacement will be given if the bus pass is lost. Once the punched bus cannot be used further. It is valid up to 12 midnight. The pass is non-transferable and advance booking of seats cannot be done with it.

Fare

The fare from Mandya-Mysore is Rs 40 per head. The advantage is that with just Rs 10 a person can travel anywhere in the city that too in Volvo bus for one day.

Madikeri, Aug 6: State transport minister, R Ashok, claimed that Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has grown into a fleet of 22,500 vehicles, the biggest in the country. “It is now fully equipped for a healthy competition with private transport operators,” he claimed. He was speaking to media men during his visit to the town to participate in a meeting of BJP activists on Thursday August 5.

He said that the corporation is big not in numbers alone, but also in quality. “KSRTC has been giving top priority to maintaining high quality in service, operations etc. It has bagged eight awards including two international ones,” he disclosed. He felt that improving the efficiency of mass communication system is the only way to wriggle out of the problems like traffic bottlenecks in cities, shortage of fuel, environmental pollution etc., which are likely to plague the country in a big way in the future.

He said that his department was the first in the country to introduce smart cards. He disclosed that the department is considering issuance of learning licences to college students at their respective colleges, to obviate the delay caused in getting them.

PM impressed by KSRTC's experiment with fuel

BANGALORE: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation's (KSRTC) experiment of mixing ethanol with diesel to fuel its buses has grabbed the attention of prime minister Manmohan Singh.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has sought details from the state government on the results of this experiment, where 7.7% ethanol is mixed with diesel for buses plying in the state.

Ethanol is being considered as a major alternative source of energy all over the world and is said to be pollution free. Apart from the PM, BJP national president Nitin Gadkari has also shown interest and asked for details on the initiative, he said.

Ashoka added that the experiment has shown an increase in the efficiency of engines. Besides, considerable reduction in vehicular emission has also been observed. Emission studies have indicated that carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emissions from vehicles using this mixture has reduced.

As per information available, Brazil uses 22% ethanol blended petrol, and USA and Australia use 10% ethanol blended petrol. Sweden, France, Spain, Canada, Mexico and Thailand also make use of ethanol blended petrol at varying levels.

The Centre has signed an MoU with Brazil to share technology for blending ethanol with petrol and diesel.

Transport minister R Ashoka has said Vayu Vajra buses plying to Bangalore International Airport (BIA) from various parts of the city will soon be provided with internet facility. On a pilot basis, one bus will be fitted with this facility within two weeks. Public response to this service will determine if and when the facility will be extended to all buses plying to BIA.

" Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will add three Mercedes Benz buses within 15 days. For first three days, passengers will have to pay just Re 1 to travel in these buses," he added.

To ensure passengers have access to quality food while travelling, KSRTC has decided to set up hotels along major highways in the state. The hotels will be established through public private partnership.

Chitradurga: Unlike in the past, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has become competent enough to take on private operators. This has been achieved by ensuring quality service, Transport Minister R. Ashok has said.

He was speaking after inaugurating a bus-stand and a circuit house at Bharamasagara hobli in Chitradurga taluk on Saturday.

The corporation had introduced hi-tech buses and was providing better facilities to passengers, he said.

The Government had earmarked Rs. 25 crore to build bus-stands in all taluk headquarters and Rs. 50 crore for building bus depots in various places. He reiterated that the Government was not succumbing to private operators' lobby in any district.

The Government was improving connectivity in rural areas by introducing more buses, Mr. Ashok said.
