what's the point of these seven pictures. This doesn't show Spa at all.

That is not true at all. These photographs do show Spa, maybe not the usual or generally expected. Showing the unusual and unexpected (or actually the very usual but non-printed in the tourist broschure) is one of the major advantages of SSC picture posts and threads. The pictures are very good. Thank you, wolkenbestormer

Thank you Iconic

I mean everybody who travels sees pictures in brochures etc. of the interesting places but when I wonder thru those cities my experiences are not just based on those printed sites but more the 'normal' life. for instance my thoughts about New York are not based on the statue of Liberty or WTC (when it was still standing) but it is more based on the people walking through the streets, the smoke coming through the manholes, going over to Brooklyn, taking the subway, the sounds and smells...

I personally like these kind of pictures more than the standard ones because they kinda reveal a little bit of the soul of a city or town. And Spa is a really nice city to walk through...

And each picture tells a little bit of the city, the first one that it's got and old centre, the second that its cold and clear refreshing day. You see the snowflakes as decoration and the boy with warm clothes. The sun is shining brightly but it does not give you warm feelings. The third tells you that it has a trainstation and that it is positioned in a vally with much nature surrounding it, the fourth tells you that the city has some grandeur this beautiful old building makes me feel warm inside. The fith shows again small houses but also the non conformistic approach of city building because of the hights of the rooftops and playing with shadow.

The sixth and seventh picture I think are just nice, shows consumerism the way ordinary people do shopping in Belgium. The seventh picture also made me laugh a little bit when I found out that while taking the picture that man in his care in de leftbottom corner was looking straight at me.. probably thinking why is he taking that picture? It just kinda interacts with me

That may be true for world famous cities, but not for places like Spa (because the majority of the people here don't even know what it looks like).

Pretty useless thread.

Well thermo most of the people don't even know where the village of Antwerp is located. If you want to look at touristpictures please go to some board of tourism. That is not my kind of style of taking pictures.

better to have an useless thread than a useless government.

Lol, Antwerp a village?

Perfect example of Dutch arrogance! :lol

Nice pictures by the way.

I was just joking. Not about the government by the way. I am still amazed how long it takes in Belgium to build some highrise buildings. Too many government layers, too many different interests. Perhaps it's better if the flemish speaking part of Belgium goes back to where it belongs...

You have some very nice pictures but i get the feeling you have trouble selecting the right ones

The original thread on the dutch forum maybe has a bit to many but here there are several missing that could give a wider view of the city without losing your own specific feel.
