sorry for going a bit off topic, but how come they cant build a supertall or skyscraper in line with this one on the other side of central park? Height restrictions?

But great photos everyone!

Any idea when the 'crown/hood' will start construction on the top?

the other side of CP is Harlem, i'd be surprised if a single skyscraper rises there in our lifetimes. A lot of it is historical and there is rampant NIMBYism

In addition to a lot of being historical like Hudson said, most of it is land values. The land values aren't nearly as high on the northern edge of the park on 110th St versus the southern end of the park, where this is being built. The area around Central Park South I'm sure has some of the most expensive apartments anywhere in the world. Time Warner Center, 15 CPW, Random House, The Plaza, this building, with lots more to come.

funny how they made that one setback just the height of the towers behind to block their views... well, funny is probably the wrong term here

This thing looks huge. Suppose because of its slim tall design

The black tower directly behind One57 is the residential Metropolitan Tower.

Yes, I feel bad for the Metropolitan Tower people but, you know what? That tower would look GREAT in Boston. I'm going to sneak it out of NYC on a flatbed truck and deposit it right into the hole in DTX!

Make sure you cover it under some tarpaulin, otherwise it's too obvious.
