saw this monster from I-95 today. It must be close to it's final height, it was soaring over the Time Warner Center. At least 200 ft higher.

I believe they are either installing concrete to its current tip, or are getting ready to install more steel. Either way, new steel is in the near future.

The entire "crown" is still missing.

Midtown may not be as diverse but it is certainly as vibrant or more so than any other part of the city IMHO

Guys I don't know if you heard, but apparently this building has topped out already. I heard over at SSP that they had a down-low ceremony for the building but it doesn't even look topped off..but it did almost a month ago

They claimed it was topped out to gain media popularity. It is clear that the roof hasn't even started to curve yet.

It's clearly not topped out. I have no idea what that article is talking about. They still have a little ways to go, the south wall curves forward to meet the north wall in that final slope, where the big mechanical looking grill is. Probably 50-60 feet, that'd be my guess.

well, maybe the concrete structure has topped out and is the top floor being built with steel?

The 57th Street canyon will be the most impressive in the world (aren't they already most impressive in NYC? Hong Kong is close but it doesn't have the straight avenues and huge bulky buildings as often...) with no competition by 2020. 225 East 57th, 432 Park, One57, 225 West 57th, The Pyramid, the Willow Hotel, and 105 West 57th will all be complete, adding enormous bulk & height. The Midtown skyline as a whole will once again be one of the world's tallest.

One57 won't even be in the top 10!

Over 1,000 feet:

432 Park
225 West 57th
Hudson Yards North Tower
ESB
15 Penn Plaza (maybe)
2 Manhattan West
BofA
Torre Verre
Chrysler
NY Times
Girasole
Hudson Yards South Tower
Hudson Yards Hotel Tower
One57
World Product Center reboot (One Hudson Yards?)

Here's another article about the Topping Out ceremony.
http://www.constructionequipmentguid...l-Tower/18486/

They still say that it will reach a record 1,004 ft. (306 m) when it will be completed. Which would be strange if the ceremony was actually about reaching the highest point. Therefore my guess is that the ceremony was to celebrate the topping out of the residential floors, reaching the highest point that will be occupied. Leaving only the mechanical floors in the crown to be finished before the actual top is reached.

I am pretty sure that the top will be steel structure, not concrete.

Don't get me wrong, I love all the parks and trees NY has preserved, but I would like to see Bryant Park moved down below 41st street. That way, 42nd street could have a magnificent canyon, maybe better than 57th street. The desirability there is so high, and the entire South side of 42nd could develop. Monsters would go up there, I guarantee. But I know that it is impractical and will not happen, but man, that would be sensational!
