Gotta admit this thing is shaping up to look far more beautiful than I thought it would be in the original renders, even though I've always loved the idea behind the design.

The location and the way it's slender and sophisticated shape soars over it's neighbors and Central Park simply is breathatking. Just another iconic image for a city full of them.

After the cladding is finished over the crown, will it still be this transparent?
(You can see in the double height penthouse floors that the light shines through the floor)

I don't know, maybe there comes thicker cladding, or something that covers the inside.

Yes, I think there is a less transparent, rich blue cladding that goes on later. Looking at photos near the 57th street entrance, the cladding is darker, not transparent, and richer in color. It looks much better than what we are seeing now, as if it isn't beautiful enough already. See the third photo from kanye on page 229.

As soon as people move in, put furniture into the appartments and hang curtains on the windows, this effect of seethroughing will vanish. The same effect can be observed at WTC 4 now.

lol wat? This is the final cladding. You don't clad a building and then slap more cladding on top of it.

I am an ameteur when it comes to this, but just look at the color change in that photo. My point is that the cladding won't look like that when the building is completed.

The cladding you see is final, save for a bit down near the entrance, which is currently covered in some sort of protective plastic sheet.

Oh ok. So the protective material will be removed so that the color matches the rest of the tower?

There will also be a vent-like structure at the top that will make it less transparent.

As for the transparency: the only reason it appears this way in the above photo is because the sun is in exactly the right spot. From other angles, it looks reflective, and will be even less transparent after tenant fit-out.

Does anyone know what is the elevator scheme planned for this building? How many skylobbies, express elevators and at which floors?

The shape of this tower is beautiful and very New York. Sadly, I don't that cladding will age very well. With more transparent cladding it would've been stunning.

The crane has broken cause of heavy winds caused by Sandy.

I fear the crane will fall onto 57th street when Sandy heads towards NYC and the wind gusts increase.
