That hollow floor just below the cooling towers looks nice, should be an observation level.

Erecting a new crane could go quickly is there is some sort of a foundation in place for it. Other wise they'll have to make one first.
(I don't think there were ever 2 cranes here)

The first one was on the sidewalk. After they erected second one with the first one, they removed it.

i heard that a city wide directive was put out for all tower cranes to be secured before the storm. what could this have possibly meant? to make sure the cab door is locked?

it's a nonsensical directive issued by someone who does know what they are talking about, as tower cranes should not be secured in the wind, they should be left alone to slew freely. that crane was not spinning either because it was too low or the slewing brakes were engaged.

afterhours, did a site manager hear the directive and decide to climb the crane and engage the slewing brakes, thinking it was the right thing to do? it sounds very plausible to me.

A great point that no one thinks of is they can't jack it down using the jacking system because it is not level and there is no weight balance, just wait you will see another one go up right next to it to take it down

Also, is the cladding brought up by the crane or the construction elevators? If the latter then maybe some work can still continue? Most likely not though. With a boo boo like this the City will want a review of this entire project.
It's probably more like they won't to keep as few people as possible in that area in case for some reason the crane does collapse, thus striking a nearby area and putting workers at risk.

I've seen 157 in the news over here in Slovakia. I'd got a bad feeling that it make take many weeks until the works on this building can continue.

Probably will see a derrick up there to, they need something to hold a man basket. No one would probably ever let anyone go up on the rig with the boom hanging

we have seen tower cranes slew and fail in the wind before.

the DOB directive was to lash the main load line to the structure and then engage a small amount of line pull.

we can see from the video that this crane was not lashed to the building as directed.

I know if two firsthand examples where this was done and the cranes are OK today.

i also know that the tower cranes on 1WTC did this and they are OK today.

So it was human error that caused this. Well, there will be one hell of a lawsuit coming soon because of the threat of falling down and injuring people. Besides evacuation of an entire block is a very costly action too. I'm not an expert on this kind of stuff but I think this might seriously hurt Extell's profit from this building

Just curious if anyone has seen people or any action inside the tower yet? They said they would start at the bottom and go floor by floor up to make sure there wasn't any structural damage. then once they made it to the top, then they would start working on the crane.

Is that 1WTC in the background with 2 perfectly functioning cranes?
