The one thing I really notice is that One57 makes all the other buildings around it look small and worthless :-(

that's harsh....I like that building next to Essex house with the high sloped roof. The fellas who put the tiles on there must have been mountaineers.

For an ultra-luxury condo tower, it sure has tacky looking glass. (Sorry, just my opinion.) How does this look any better than that college dorm highrise they recently slapped up in downtown Chicago?

There's a tinted protective film on the glass for now.

Because the cladding is supposed to look like water trickling down a waterfall. It's not just random cladding. You'll probably appreciate it once the cladding finishes.

I'm out here in Seattle, I was watching live coverage of Sandy last week and they were like, "And here is a live picture of that construction crane..." and I was like, "ONE57 NOO!!!"

But she survived ^_^

It's almost as if the crane was engineered to fail in the manner it did. The fact that it's secured to the building, 4 days later, and not on the street is a testament to the engineers on this project.

I wouldn't go that far, they were lucky. Any stronger it would have hit the ground.

Friend who works at Harris MRP told me this

"A good source told me that crane was secured to its proper position . The crane is a 440 little one and is toast , drums and engine shot along with boom . Building is concrete and they are looking how a Timberland could be put up , next you need a big drum hoist that can fit in the elevator ??? We are working on one to get the cranes off Tower 1 !!! The worst is putting up a crane to take it apart , guess who has one with enough drum to do it ??? This has never been done before anywhere ."

Looks like today they added some beams to secure the boom.

Just out of interest.
Does anyone know how the crane operator got up there each day before the accident?
Surely he didn't have to climb all the way up from the bottom.

It's ok, I've just looked back a few pages and seen the walkway on the top tie.
