The crane is still there. We just can't see it from that angle. Removal is supposedly to start next week:

One does not simply hurry the removal of a heavily damaged crane, 1000 feet above a heavily frequented street, in the middle of midtown. :P

Didn't we read somewhere that it was suppose to take 48 hours, which we all thought was BS? I think they meant 48 days.

maybe they meant the time it took to secure the crane to the building?

It's been less than a month. Do you expect Extell to insantly vaporize the old crane and pull a new one out of its ass? This involves a lot of engineering, financing, paperwork, etc. I'm surprised it's happening so soon, actually.

I believe that's how long it was going to take to secure the crane to the building after the storm.

^One57 looks amazing in those pics from the park. Incredible to think that it's the one that is going to be dwarfed in that same shot in a couple of years.

I completely agree with you. This is a heavily damaged crane above a densely populated street. Any form of sloppyness could cause a horrific meat grinder. The crane has to be removed slowly and with great care in order to minimize danger.

This photo shows a contrast between a 3,000 year old Egyptian Obelisk which was given to NY in the 19th Century, and Extell's new "obelisk."

Very few New Yorkers are even aware of this obelisk.
