I'm really glad to see that the cladding continues while we wait for a new crane

It isn't much but at least there is some progress. Btw, the building might have been now nearly finished if the crane wouldn't break.

I'm hoping to get to the crown soon. I can see it from my place, and it's exciting to see it progress!

Does anyone know if they have started to remove the crane yet?

I'm just an ignorant bystander, but I'm struck by how long it takes to remove and replace a broken crane. I'm sure it's tricky removing it, but from what I read on Bloomberg, they're talking the 1st quarter of next year before they're back in business, and it's already been a month and a half. That means potentially a half-year delay over a single crane.

If it goes according to schedule, China will begin and complete SkyCity while One57 is waiting for a crane.

thanks for the photo. wow, they built a cocoon around the boom.

consider the things that had to happen with a procedure like this.

-emergency assessment
-moving the crane to a secure position
-brainstorm and decide on a plan of action
-engineering + drawing the procedure by a PE
-approval of the procedure by the design team for the project
-approval of the procedure from city agencies
-buy out the material and equipment for the procedure
-set up the cocoon
-remove the damaged boom sections, load them out in the material hoist
-build the new crane - likely 2 months to complete - weekend work only probably
-demob the old crane - 1-2 months
-complete the scope of work

That's a lot of delays. I hope this will teach all NYC developers to secure their cranes in a proper way during high winds.

That's a good possibility, it's broken down a few days ago.

I had been wondering if the derrick would look like the one on 4WTC. Cool that it will actually be the same one.

This is a much better solution. The derrick can also be used to put the remaining glas panels in place.

it's nice to see that the crane has become part of the building since they built a sun room around it seriously are they bringing 6" sections of the boom down one at a time until its disassembled? I cant believe it's taking this long.
Is it possible to attach a new boom to the crane without taking the entire crane down?
