One57 is going to get dwarfed and soon. I think it's a fine looking tower (still can't wait to see the crown finished and lit up), but its days as King of the Park are already numbered.

That photoshop job gets me even more excited for the phalanx of supertalls destined for the south of the park. The scale in that part of the City is totally being redefined. It's blowing my mind to try and imagine a 1,550 footer half a block from this already prominent tower.

But I'm again reminded what a travesty it is that we won't get the 1,250 ft version of Tower Verre. I'm consoling myself by thinking of TV and One57 as yin-and-yang twins... but I'd much prefer more of an ESB-to-Chrysler relationship.

Alas.

Hayden Planetarium at the american museum of natural history. When they opened it, about 10 years ago, pluto was not shown as a planet in the display. This opened the way for pluto being demoted to dwarf-planet status. They also just renovated the Teddy Roosevelt memorial wing at the museum (spectacular murals). Ada Louis Huxtable had a interesting (positive) review of it when it first opened. She talks about how it looks like the machinery of the city.
Don't know if any of this is interesting to you, I just happen to be a fan of this "giant tuned mass dampener"

to get back on topic
I haven't seen any update on progress at one57. Has the glass started to rise yet now that the new crane is installed. And does anyone know if they used the delay to get a jumpstart on interior work?

Thank you for the info. It is very interesting and I am a fan of astronomy too. I'll definitely visit it if I ever get to visit NYC

That's still a lot of panels to go. I thought there was more progress.

This thing is taking way too long. I don't even check the thread anymore cause it's never good news on this work in progress.

Yeah he's great. He used to live in the Houston area but has recently moved to Pittsburgh. Always taking excellent shots of new towers.

Yes:

Quote:
Due to limited availability, Lend Lease mounted a smaller crane, a Favelle Favco model 220, than the previous one, which was a Favelle Favco model 440. Because of the replacement crane's smaller lifting capacity, such items as the building's 200,000-lb window-washing rig will need to be assembled using more crane picks.

"There are 21 picks for the window-washing rig—that used to be 15," says Finamore. "I had to break down some of those picks because of their weight." The heaviest piece is 17,600 lb, he adds. Other lifts that the crane will perform include the steel that forms the roof's two-story arches and a unitized curtain wall.
