Recent cladding on the East and West facades (waterfall pattern) seems to be darker than the rest of the panels. What's up with that?

Probably opaque panels to hide the machinery. It's always at the last part of construction that something suddenly is built unlike the renders and messes up the design.

Yeah, it's aggravating, just like MCT's random MEP floors. The top of a building should best display the building's character, and some haphazardly placed panels poorly reflects it.

No need to panic guys! From what i understand this is some kind of protective coating, kind of the one being used on the lower part of the building. This building is quite stunning! Best new Supertall in NYC in my opinion.... till we get TV and 2WTC up the ground (tho the 225 w 57 and the Steinway Tower might have something to say about that).

I hope so. It's not the same covering as on the base if that's the case. If you look closely, you can see open mech vents similar to 1WTC's on some of the panels.

Seriously you guys? It's obviously the same plastic covering you see on the western half of the glass at the base. It'll be removed.

With that top this tower is a new very recognizable landmark. Especially from Central Park.

Well fortunately I don't think this will be a problem for anyone besides Mr. Kent.

Look at the 6th photo (3rd from bottom). It shows both areas in the same picture, and it looks different. I'm not saying that it's not necessarily protective covering, just that it does look different.
