Please can you say me the skyscrapercity page number where was posted the James ussel critic on One 57? i want read the comments i am curious.
About the plastic filtering when will be removed?
Another curbed reader say that glass is not really curved :
The execution (it is faceted not truly curved), just shouts "value engineered compromise".
Not real curves?????
I think this tower is gorgeous!

The crane has been lowered further down the tower. Didn't quite get a pic where its visible though. But here's one I did take:

Looking at it from this angle in-person makes it look so thin. I can only imagine what it will be like to see 432 or 107, which are truly thin skyscrapers, once they are topped out.

There are many reasons for the underlining hate towards One57 actually.

The tag “Billionaire Building” that had been started in the midst of recession has not exactly been received positively in public opinion and the crane accidents had been a PR disaster towards the tower. Extell has gotten a bad name lately with the “poor door” and “tax credit” saga. Extell plays by the rules and uses the system to its advantage. That is why Extell chooses “as of right” projects to circumvent the opposition and rightfully so leaving the Nimby’s powerless and resentful.

What is resentful that this tower represents? It is a pioneer as it's the first of its kind leading the way for a host of supertalls that is/ will be sprouting along this corridor, marking the change of landscape along Central Park. There are shadow fearers, height allergic critics. They all have their own agenda’s and are lucky enough to have a platform to try to sway public opinion on the people that don’t have the capability to form their own thoughts and opinions. They prey on… what’s the term? Oh yes…. Sheeples!

I wish I had a platform and maybe I can go on the NYTimes Op-ed. Lol.

What is boring and cheap about the façade? I admit the plastic filtering over the gass does not do justice. Imo, it is one of the unique facades in the city. Go figure.

Bloomberg having an architecture critic is like Sports Illustrated having a sewing column.

Central Park looks awesome in autumn. Are they going to mount the still missing panels from that elevator?

Extell’s One57 crane collapse saga draws to a close
http://therealdeal.com/blog/2013/11/...n-one57-crane/

Quote:
Extell Development has finally taken down its much-maligned crane at One57, the developer said. “As One57 approaches completion, with its first closings scheduled for December, the crane was safely and successfully removed from the building this morning,” Extell said in a statement.

“We would like to thank our neighbors [for] their understanding, as well as all the city agencies involved in this operation,” the developer added.

The crane at the luxury condominium development at 157 West 57th Street first came into the spotlight during Hurricane Sandy last year, when the storm caused the crane to snap backwards, as The Real Deal reported. And last month, a replacement crane at the site stalled with a heavy load dangling in midair.
