No glass but some interesting stuff is up there..Dan did an amazing job with those pics..That black "trailer" thing looks like some sort of mechanical equipment which will stay in there..You can notice lots of vents..Electricity, pumps, it's probably something like that..

Also, back on the 58th street, up in the air you can notice huge gap above the mechanical floor..On that floor will be elevator machine room, accessory residential library, accessory residential dining room and pantry, accessory residential fitness center and accessory residential lounge..Take your pick what will be there..

Thanks so much for posting the pics Dino.

There are some definite mysteries here. The apparent mechanical equipment on the 58th street side is strange. It looks like a trailer put up there as if it is just for construction and not permanent. If it were permanent you would think the vents would be built into the cladding as we clearly see in the WTC 4 site.

That really big space way up is interesting. I assumed it is some sort of lobby or other type of room that they wanted big glass windows for. Unfortunately I didn't have the presence of mind to see exactly what it is directly accross from and how much of a view it would have. I suspect it won't have much of a view due to buildings between it and Central Park.

What most impressed me though is how fast they are going now. Note they had THREE crane segments on site to jump the crane!! Seems like a short while ago we were all lamenting how slow it was progressing - well now they are literally flying. They are clearly doing at least a floor a week, maybe more. Is more than one floor per week even possible with concrete - ie don't they need lots of time for it to set before they put up another floor on top of it?

Anyways, I am super happy with the speed. With the way the economy is going I am scared about projects being cancelled or scaled back. So the more this baby climbs the more confident I become we will have another super tall here. :-)

Maybe there will be..I've never seen renders for 58th street..
I don't know..If that thing is only for construction then it means they would use it on other sites too, and it wouldn't look so new and clean..Plus, it fits perfect up there, doesn't seem to be a coincidence..

Concrete is ready in 48 hours, so no problem..

Even with a clean machine it could still be a rental. Look how clean the tower sections are when they show up.

Anyways, well find out in due course.

I am going away in a couple of weeks. Hope to see some cladding up before I go.

This thing already looks enormous and it still has not reached even half of its height.

Actually, I don't know exactly where it is but I think it is about 1/3 of its final height.

And yes, walking down 57th Street from the west it is really starting to stand out and be in your face. Just a matter of time till Flikr gets flooded with pictures of this.

Just reposting Otie's wonderful work.. It's a little taller than this by now but I would say it is somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 of its final height.
