wow - just seen the plans for the Warwick Road site......had been interested in this for yonks, but too lazy ass to search anything out. Thanks v.much Henry for that. All I can say is great! Its a fricking mess of a place at the moment. Warwick Road really is a bit of a busy highway, but and I've been curious about the plans for Charles House for ages. Will watch with interest. nothing too tall, which is correct for the location, but it really does have the scope to provide some excellently planned housing stock in a prime location crying out for it.

You're very welcome jimbo, it really is a big wasted slice of London at the moment so hopefully these plans won't be held up too long by our current economic woes. Charles house is, as you say, a real blight.

Stables Market, Camden Town is coming on nicely with much of it already open. Canalside Market and Hawley Arms pub opposite is also open after the fire last year.

Very pleased to see this terrific building get some recognition;http://www.worldarchitecturenews.com...pload_id=11616

BDP design celebrated as life altering school

Bridge Academy, in one of London's notoriously underprivileged boroughs, reined triumphant this week at the ACE (Association for Consultancy and Engineering) Engineering Excellence Awards held in London on Wednesday. The awards showcase consultancy and engineering firms who demonstrate a high degree of achievement, value and engineering excellence.

BDP picked up the winner’s trophy for the Building Structures (Large Firm) category, beating Buro Happold, Pell Frischmann, Scott Wilson and WYG Engineering to the title. Performing architecture, environmental engineering, structural engineering and landscaping services for the school which completed in 2008, BDP have achieved the near impossible in changing teenage attitudes to education.

"During our first year many visitors remarked on students’ politeness, loyalty to the Academy and strong work ethic. They also commented on how smart students looked in their uniforms. Students who attend are very proud of the Academy and positive about learning," said Bridge Academy's Chair of Governors, Jeremy Palmer.

Bridge Academy’s seven storey structure fits 15,500 sq m of learning and recreational space into a tight 6,000 sq m inner city site set along the Regent’s Canal in the London Borough of Hackney. The inspirational structure is designed to eliminate anti-social behaviour prevalent in traditional school corridors, with a sweeping steel arch at the heart of the academy which creates a column free flexible space.

The design for 1150 students and 100 staff, creates a focus for the regeneration of a neglected inner city area. Responding to the opportunities of this constrained brownfield water-side site the innovative vertical Academy creates a compact school shaped around a multi-level ‘heartspace’, maximising social interaction and minimising poor behaviour. The design displaces ground upwards taking advantage of magnificent roofspaces for performance, learning and play.

On receiving the award Oliver Plunkett, BDP structural and civil engineering director said: “I’m thrilled that a project that does so much to enhance the area and create a stimulating learning environment for local children has been recognised, both for the creative design approach of the interdisciplinary BDP team to the significant site challenges and the dedication of the contractor’s team in realising the design."

Quick update on the Pentonville Road building from the first page of the thread, the curved roof is now very clear. I like it.

This rather excellent little building is nearing completion on Durston Street - just off Kingsland Road.

Current buildings, it looks like they've been vacated already

I noticed today that demolition has begun on this site - the Tangent building has completely gone and it's neighbour is ready to come down. I'll try to get some pics next time.

An excellent new building just completing further up East Road is "The Hive", a development of new student flats. The facade along the main road is beautifully clad in copper and although it's fairly tall for this stretch the architects have incorporated a good deal of set-backs, balconies and angles into the design giving it plenty of interest;

The row of windows joining the brown and brick parts of the building look like something straight out of the eighties. It together with the brick part, which will look dirty in no time, lets the whole building down. We can do better than that.

I like it too it's almost brutal but with nice copper cladding instead of concrete also the glazing for once looks of a good quality. Property developers/ architects take note , this is how you SHOULD do it.

Pffft... the only students that'll afford to live there are ones with rich parents

That does look amazing though, give it a few years and it'll turn a nice minty green, or do they put some sort of protection on copper cladding these days to stop that?

Here you go ruvjet - looking good on the side that will eventually face the new square, I like the enclosed balconies. It looks like the first phase has residents in already;

However the Beechwood Road side is looking a bit brutal. Very overpowering for a relatively narrow side-street;

Around the corner on Tyssen Street, Kinetica has reached its full height;

The brackets for the external wind-turbines are in place - highlighting what will be a key feature of this building;
