GUCCI CELEBRATES THE OPENING OF THE RENOVATED MILAN FLAGSHIP STORE WITH EXCLUSIVE HANDBAG AND ARTISAN CORNER ![]() Gucci opened its newly renovated boutique in Milan on Via Montenapoleone. Located in the heart of Milan’s fashion district Quadrilatero della Moda, the shopping destination spans 1600 square meters and boasts a brand new design concept by Creative Director Frida Giannini. To commemorate the occasion, Giannini has created an exclusive handbag inspired by a model from the House’s archives. A reinterpretation of the original bag often carried by celebrity clients in the Sixties, as documented in archival paparazzi photographs, the design recalls the simple yet elegant shape of the classic carrier bag. During this era, Gucci customers received the bag as packaging for items in precious skins and the style enjoyed success in a variety of sizes and colors throughout the Seventies and Eighties. Now available as a limited edition, the exclusive handbag for Montenapoleone features soft, lightweight cotton-linen with detailing in black pigskin. An oval plaque carries the House’s iconic Crest symbol along with the Gucci logo and the name of the boutique. On September 21, the first day of Milan Fashion Week and the day of its Women’s Spring Summer 2012 show, Gucci will host an exclusive cocktail party to inaugurate the newly renovated boutique. From 7 to 9 pm, the flagship will hold the Gucci Artisan Corner, the exclusive event that brings the craftsmanship of its Florentine leather goods factory directly to its clientele. The House’s most skilled artisans will be stationed at custom-built workshops and will offer a unique viewing of time-honored traditions. As the craftsmen assemble iconic handbags such as the Jackie, the Stirrup, and the Gucci 1973, customers can witness first hand the meticulous attention to detail and superb craftsmanship that is involved in the production of every item in Gucci’s leather goods collection. The hand-crafted products will be available for personalization with hand-embossed monogramming. Each handbag will feature a special inside plaque embossed with the location and date. In addition, for the first time ever the artisans will display their work on the signature Gucci moccasin and demonstrate expert techniques used in the shoe-making process. The styles of the display moccasin will also be available in the shoe department, and upon purchase customers may have the artisan personalize their pair. “Via Montenapoleone is one of Europe’s most prestigious retail destinations so I wanted to amplify the luxuriousness of the boutique’s environment through natural light and space to create an aesthetic, which is complementary to the vision of the House today,” explains Giannini. “Throughout the new design concept there are references to iconic Gucci materials and elements of stores from the past, but always set in a context that is thoroughly modern creating the ideal backdrop for the collections.” Giannini’s innovative store design concept, which employs open space, warm luxurious materials and natural light to spectacular effect, is a departure from traditional codified fashion retail spaces, and paves the way for Gucci’s 21st century contemporary look. Signature Gucci materials of rosewood and marble are enhanced with the introduction of new elements such as ribbed glass, warm polished gold, smoked mirror and smoked bronze glass, recalling the elegance and richness of the Art Deco era. Geometric lines, including stylized characterization of Gucci’s signature web striping, define the internal space by adding further symbolic detailing. Smoked mirror and glass alternate providing an elongated perspective; door handles comprise gold and glass stripes; the floor is covered in white marble, sliced with a wide black marble strip that runs underfoot, up the wall and on the ceiling overhead; a fused bronze glass with a striped cross section and cracked lacquer is employed on shelving and display cases. Walls, covered in both bronze glass and bronze mirror, contribute to the warm intimacy and sophistication of the store environment. The lower level hosts the men’s and women’s ready-to-wear collections along with shoes and jewellery. The ground floor features a wide selection of Gucci’s accessories: handbags, luggage, small leather goods, silks, watches, fragrances and sunglasses. The first floor is dedicated to a selection of casual men’s and women’s clothing as well as additional handbags and women’s shoes. The children’s collection is available on the second floor. The Montenapoleone store is among over 30 Gucci stores in the world that now reflect Frida Giannini’s deign concept following its successful roll-out in other cities including New York, Rome, Hong Kong, London, Shanghai and Paris. ![]() ![]() |
