Telenor Arena

Telenor Arena

STADIUM INFORMATION
Name: Telenor Arena
Club: Stabæk Fotball
Opned: February 2009
Capacity: 15,600 seats (23,000 for concerts)
Costs: 585.000.000 NOK
Official Site: www.telenorarena.no | www.stabak.no

Big events:
  • Telenor Arena will be the host of Eurovision Song Contest 2010.
  • Today, Stabæk Fotball will play against KF Tirana in the 2. qualification round of the UEFA Champions League. Hopefully we will manage to qualify for the grope stage.
  • Both ACDC and Tina Turner have played concerts in Telenor Arena.

Worth to know:
  • Telenor Arena is located at an old Airport. Therefore the architect tried to use elements from airports/airplanes. For example you may see that the inside of the arena looks similar to a hangar.
  • It’s possible to arrange wintersports events like biathlon inside the arena.
  • The players are very satisfied with the artificial turf. The biggest difference compared to normal grass is the speed of the ball - which seems to be a little faster.

The height of the roof is 23 meters, and that’s high enough for playing international games. (As far as i know the big screens in Veltins Arena are 25 meters over the gronud). After 14 games the ball has never hit the roof, but it has been quite close some times.

My (short) opinion:
I am very satisfied with the Arena. I think it looks nice, and there are a lot of smart functions in it. Normally the temperature is about 18-20 degree Celsius, which is perfect for football. But when it’s really hot outside (like 30 degree) it’s getting too hot inside. The atmosphere, sound and the light are all very good.

I saw Rolling Stones concert at Valle Hovin back in 2007, there is a lot of space there for future venues.

The economy for the Norwegian clubs is very poor at the moment and attendances are low compared to a few years ago so I wouldnt expect much to happen the next years.

Yes. Also most of the clubs in the top division in Norway have modern grounds with plenty of capacity. The few clubs with poor stadiums are also struggling financially so no new stadium projects there,

I know that most of the clubs in the Norwegian Tippeligaen nice and modern stadiums have, and a pair in the Adeccoligaen.

Such: Ulleval Stadion - Valerenga IF and SFK Lyn Oslo (Adeccoligaen), Lerkendal Stadion - Rosenborg BK, Brann stadion - SK Brann, Viking Stadion - Viking FK Stavanger, Sor Arena - IK Start, Telenor Arena - Stabaek IF, Aker Stadion - Molde FK, Color Line Stadion - Aalesunds FK, Skagerak Arena - Odd Grenland, Sandefjord Fotball - Komplett.no Arena, Hamarkameratene - Briskeby Stadion, Arasen Stadion - Lillestrom SK, Sogndal Fotball - Fosshaugane Campus, Frederikstad Stadion - Frederikstad FK (Adeccoligaen).

But do you know or the new Valerenga IF stadium already under construction is?

And now we're also getting a brand new multi use indoor hall here in Kristiansand. The new Idda Arena will replace the old Idda Stadium, and it is expected to be finnished the upcoming may and opened in august. It will include a ice hockey arena with 1000 seats, curling arena, handball/basket hall, martial arts hall, fitness room and a dance studio. In total there will be over 10 000 m2 of sports facilities.

Is that ice rink in a cave (built for the 1994 Winter Games in Lillehammer) in Hamar? still in use? How many times a year does it see any use?

It`s needed above the arctic circle where the winter stretches from october to april/may. Depressing to watch football beeing plaid on plastic.

In other news, it looks like Stabæk IF will have to find a new home afther the end of this season as they are struggeling to keep their head above water as regards to their economic fulfillments with the stadium owners, can`t remember if their current arena (Telenor Arena) is private or govnerment owned. They are looking at several options such as Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo, Bislett Stadium in Oslo, or upgrading their old stadium Nadderud. The last option won`t happen in any near future as bureaucracy along with oil is the only thing we`ve got enough of in this country.

From the inside it looks like a copy of Aker Stadium in Molde.

It seems like it. We just don't have money for things like this in Norway.

bullshit there is a lot of money in Norway, it's just that the govt likes hiding it away in the oil fund, rather like the lack of money spent on hospitals, education, the elderly, roads and rail networks, there is more than enough money to solve all of Norways problems and build infrastructure like this.

Norway do need a national stadium, similar to Sweden. Their national team is way too popular to play at the smaller club grounds.
