Maastricht and Sittard (Holland)

Here a thread with my pictures of 2 cities in Holland, Maastricht and Sittard. Both cities lies in the most southern part of Holland. I hope you enjoy!

Maastricht

Maastricht is a city with 120.000 inhabitants and the city claimed to be the oldest city of Holland. In this thread you see a few pictures of the city-center and pictures of the surrounding neighbourhoods. I show you a bit of the older Maastricht (unfortunetly i have'nt pictures of the oldest part of the city...), and the new neighbourhood called Ceramique.

1.

The Market Square with the cityhall.

2.

Plein 1992, the Ceramique area.

3.

The Maas, a river that connects cities like Liege (Belgium) with Maastricht and Rotterdam.

4.

5.

The Boschstraat, a street near the city-center.

6.

The churches lies in the city-center. the oldest church is more than 1000! years old.

7.

The Colonel next to the Central Train Station. This is the highest, new 'tower' of Maastricht.

8.

Old factory near the city center. Maastricht was in the past a real industry-city.

9.

Lage Barakken, near the Central Station.

10.

Ceramique.

11.

Wyckerbrugstraat.

12.

Old, abandonded factory.

13.

Ceramique.

14.

Little hills of Maastricht. This part of Holland is (a bit) hilly. More than 50% of the surface of Holland lies beneath sealevel...

15.

Next to the Central Station, the Wyckerbrugstraat.

16.

The Bassin, an inner harbouw near the city-center.

17.

Lage Barakken.

18.

Ceramique.

Sittard

Sittard lies 20 km northly of Maastricht and has 50.000 inhabitants. It's also my hometown.

19.

The Market Square.

20.

The Putstraat, in the city center.

21.

Funny houses in the neighbourhood Overhoven. This houses were build for the people who worked in the coal mines (since approx. 30 years ago the mines were closed...)

22.

A big house near the park.

23.

The city center, with the Petrus and Baselic Churches.

24.

Haagsittard, a new neighbouwhood near the border with Germany (just 100 meter to the left is Germany).

25.

An approx. 400 years old house in the city-center.

26.

A new office building (the European head office of Sabic) near the trainstation.

27.

The Paardestraat/ City-Center.

28.

The Putstraat/ City-Center.

29.

The Broekstraat, a nice street in the southern part of Sittard.

30.

Petruschurch.

31.

The Market Square.

Countryside near Maastricht and Sittard (Zuid-Limburg)

32.

Vaals, here lies the highest hill of Holland, the Vaalserberg (321 m.) Als here comes Holland, Belgium and Germany together. Vaals lies next to the German city of Aachen.

33.

Typical, old houses for this area.

Wow, these are all great photos, and just in time too! I'm studying abroad in Maastricht and I arrive in late January! What's the weather like during this time of year?

I'm really excited to get over there!

@Skydalimit
Now is cold here, at night there is frost and in the day there is a little frost. Night: approx. -5 degrees Celsius (i don't know how much that is in fahrenheid), today -1 degrees celsius. Normaly is now approx. at night 2 +celsius / day 7 + celsius. It's a cold winter now, with even the longest period of frost since 15 years. If you want to see the weather look at this site : www.knmi.nl (and look by 'verwachtingen', than you see the weather for the future days, the temorature is in celsius)

Has it snowed during this winter? I hope it snows when I'm there!

@Skydalimit
Last monday it snowed, i think 15 centimeter!, now the snow is still laying here. Normaly when it snows the day after it's melted...
I think this winter is the coldest of the past 12 years, it's more cold than normally.

@Marco
je hebt groot gelijk, maar de meetse niet Nederlanders die kennen alleen Holland en niet the Netherlands, dus heb ik het maar Holland genoe,d.
