#APPROVED: DANAT AL EMARAT WOMAN & CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL

Singapore firm chosen to manage new hospital

An agreement has been signed for the first private hospital in the UAE - set to open in 2011 - to be managed by an international operator.

United Eastern Medical Services (UEM), Abu Dhabi’s healthcare investment and development company, has inked a deal with renowned Singaporean medical operators ParkwayHealth to manage Danat Al Emarat Women and Children’s Hospital in Abu Dhabi.

Under the agreement, Danat Al Emarat will become the first private hospital in the UAE to be managed by an international company.

ParkwayHealth, a subsidiary of Parkway Holdings Ltd, currently operates 15 hospitals with more than 3,600 beds across Asia.

"For many years now, masses of patients have travelled to Singapore from the UAE seeking the most advanced medical technologies and expertise. We aim to replicate the ‘ParkwayHealth’ model and are confident that this partnership will allow us to establish Danat Al Emarat as one of the premier hospitals in the Middle East," said Mohammed Ali Al Shorafa, managing director and CEO of UEM.

With a completion date of 2011, Danat Al Emarat hospital will have 170 beds on opening, with a maximum capacity of 260 beds.

Facilities at the hospital will include 30 spacious labour, delivery and recovery (LDR) suites offering hotel-like comfort and convenience, a signature spa and wellness centre, a 100-seat auditorium and private classrooms for parenting and wellness classes.

Dr Lim Cheok Peng, Group President and Chief Executive Officer of Parkway Holdings Ltd, added: "This venture marks ParkwayHealth’s first foray into the Middle East and we are pleased and honoured to have been selected to manage this exciting new project."

Work on Dh730m hospital begins

Gulf News Report
Published: September 23, 2009, 23:09

Dubai: UEMedical has officially broken ground and begun construction on Danat Al Emarat Women & Children's Hospital.

The 70,000-square metre project is being built with an investment of Dh730 million, Gulf News has learnt.

Located in the Officers City area of Abu Dhabi, the Danat Al Emarat Hospital will become one of the largest and most comprehensive hospitals for women and children in the Middle East.

"The hospital will provide critically needed maternity and neo-natal services in Abu Dhabi as outlined in the 2008 report by Health Authority-Abu Dhabi, and we are firmly committed to begin operations by the end of 2011," Mohammad Ali Al Shorafa, managing director and chief executive officer of UEMedical, said in a statement.

Al Ghurair Arabian Foundations Engineering was selected by UEMedical for the first phase of the construction process, and the contract for the second and final phase of construction will similarly be tendered to guarantee the highest quality of the project.

It will support UEMedical's multiple missions of delivering world-class, patient-centric care, and improving the long-term health of the population.

Renowned Singaporean health care operators ParkwayHealth will manage the 200-bed facility, positioning it at the forefront of the region's medical sector and establishing it as a referral centre for high-risk pregnancies and a regional Centre of Excellence for women and children's health.

"Danat Al Emarat will be yet another landmark project that we are proud to be a part of and we look forward to the prompt completion of the building base structure," said Hussain Hatata, general manager of local contractor Al Ghurair Arabian Foundations Engineering.
