The terminal is going to open for passengers in April.

Here's a comparison of the new and old Domestic terminals:

I am not so sure about this but this airport is indeed improving a lot in the last 2 years.

I can't wait for the new domestic terminal to be opened the end of March. The current one is a joke as it is so small that it does not even have enough place for passengers to sit down.

It is a shame however that this new domestic terminal will not have any connecting jetways to the aircraft. I believe departing and arriving passengers will still be bused from and to the terminal.

The signages don't include Urdu on it. Considering that Delhi is where Urdu originated, and has a large Muslim population, as well as a great culture where urdu has been so influential, it only makes sense that they would include Urdu. I wish they had done that. Hope they atleast do it for the international one.

Thats how it was at the International Airport in Paris, France also. They have those buses that go from terminal to terminal. In many ways the airport in Paris is good, but in many ways its bad. It looks really old and depressing in many parts, and is very small.

While Urdu is widely spoken (its more Hindustani - great combination of Hindi and Urdu), it is not as widely read and written. I do not think having Urdu signage will help a large population. In fact, IIRC Hyderabad International Airport has signs in Urdu because of a larger Muslim population there.

Pardon me if you know this already, but in Central Delhi, most signs are in 4 languages - English, Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi. I find it quite fascinating. Heck, our currency has 17 languages on it!

India's rising.

The last time I checked on flightstat ( now it doesn't work ) there are 40-50 flights a day between Delhi & Mumbai , 20-30 a day between Delhi and Chennai, am not sure about Kolkata. I think they made up high% of total pax into IGIA

i agree that Beijing is a lill bit too huge & too awesome. but i think he is talking about terminal T3 of Delhi which is still under construction & will be ready only by 2010. Now that's gonna be too huge as well in comparison to the 1D [whose pics you just saw] which is a low cost airline terminal ... & considering the fact that the developers M/S GMR have already vowed the audience by some remarkable job at Hyderabad, you never know what they have in store for you in 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

12% of delhiites are muslim. Moreover, the state languages of Delhi are Hindi, Urdu & Punjabi. For this reason I think all the signages in Delhi (except highways, i guess) should include All 3 languages. Here in canada, nobody outside Quebec really speaks French. Yet we are still taught it in school (it is mandatory) and all signages here include french.

I went to Delhi back in 2007, and I live around Central Delhi area, so I did notice that the Central Delhi does have signs in Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu and English. But if you go outside of central delhi, there is no regulation.

Some signs are only in Hindi, which is not good. If not urdu and punjabi, atleast include english! What about south indians who don't know hindi? What about foreigners? The government needs to fix this.

P.S. does anybody have pictures of the new bus-stops in delhi? Those are quite amazing, I saw them in Central delhi back in 2007. Are they found all throughout delhi now? or are they mainly only in central delhi?
