Its almost completed. some interior finishing and finalization of installation of aerobridges is going on. It should be up and running by September this year

Rumors are that Dragon Air is going to start operations from the city with 4 weekly or daily flights to HK, Etihad is going to start operations soon, BA might make a comeback, the national low cost carriers Indigo and Spice Jet will be starting operation with flights to South East Asia (mostly Bangkok and Dhaka) but nothing is concrete as of now.

As far as I know, Dragon Air is a sister airline of Cathay Pacific. That means, tourists from Chennai/Madras going to China en route to HK will benefit from the flights.

Dragon Air connects HK to 19 cities in the Chinese mainland...

That new terminal is really urgently needed. I used CCU for the first time about a month ago and it is certainly the worst 10+ million/pax airport I have ever used anywhere in the world.
The old terminal is completely run-down and hopelessly overcrowded.

. yeah that cowshed is very soon going to be replaced by one of the most beautiful terminals in the country (Mumbai will be the best IMHO once its done). visit next year and take some more incredible photos of the terminal and India
