Well, since there will still be 32 teams, 12 venues is a nice number. 10 venues is doable, although that would be cutting it close. 8 venues risk overuse of the pitch, etc..

I wouldn't be so sure, Fifa is really upset with so many delays on the construction of the new venues and they have said that the construction should begin no longer than May 3rd...well, some cities like Natal won't be able to start works until then.

Well, I don't see the construction works starting in Natal in 2010. The government still doesn't know where the resources will come from. Considering the final deadline for public bidding before the elections is in June, I think they would only be able to start the actrual construction in 2011, IF they realise it's not going to egt their tiny state broken.

And that's why I think there will be cuts. But 4 cities would be too much.

I guess just two cities will be cut, and Brasilia is in trouble, they have many problems right now to focus on the construction of this fency new stadium...but would be unfair to our national capital to be overlooked in the greatest sportive party of our nation in this century.

I feel bad for other cities who attempted and lost a spot as venue. How Floripa, Goiania and Belem will feel when cities be cut off because couldnt do it?

There have been a lot of rumours in the Brazilian press that FIFA has a backup plan for 2014 - England.

Of Course Brazil will be ready for 2014 as Rio was for 2007 PanAmerican.
Even we don t know wich country will hold the 2018 and 2022 yet, so many guesses...

Brazil will have similar problems as now Ukraine does. They will built stadiums until the opening day.

The preparation so far has been an utter embarrassment. This May 3rd was the third deadline not met by the host cities to initiate the construction of their stadiums (first January 1st, then March 1st, and today). Out of the 12 host cities, 2 have met the deadline.

Brazil is lucky that FIFA accelerated the hosting procedures in order to avoid the same delays that happened in South Africa.

By the way, Jerome Valcke called out the local comittee today for the first time, saying that "it's incredible how late Brazil is" and that "Brazil is not going in the right direction".

I imagine the same situation. Maybe still should be possible to put Florianopolis replacing some city that doesn't meet the dead line's stablished by Fifa ? I remember that there was a project for the rebuilding of Figueirense's stadium.
