It's impressive how Japan and many other developed countries build with such speed their buildings. Just for comparison, here in Brazil, we don't have many highrises, in my city there is none and we take more than 2 or 3 years to lift up 20~30 floors.

That's the difference (one of them) that defines a real compromised country.

I think mayb that's part of it, but there are many other factors involved in urban development. Don't worry, I'm sure by mid-century there will be dozens of skyscrapers in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

It makes sense. In Japan, the average height of an office floor is much taller. If it was residantial it could have had 80 floors. So you see the difference.

I already expected this question.

The tower is called "Dai Heiwa Kinen To" (大平和祈念塔) or short "PL Tower".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dai_Heiwa_Kinen_T%C5%8D

This 180m tall tower was built in 1970 by the "Church of Perfect Liberty" in as a prayer tower to remember all war victims in history.

@Skymaster
In Tokyo there's a 200m skyscraper U/C with just 33 floors, high floors are one of the trends in new Japanese office construction. If the hotel wasn't part of the plan it would even have less floors.

Oh that thing is definitely different! It's weird that this tower is even not famous at all???!!!
I would like to visit that if I'm in Osaka, but it looks quite outside of the city though.

I understand that having a high ceiling height makes for a more pleasant environment to work in.
