Wow. Nice update!

I'd love to see some more street level photos of alleys and such.

I love Seoul. I was talking to a buddy of mine who just spent a few weeks on vacation back in Korea. We were talking about how every time we go back, we always get the desire to stay and not come back to the US. But then, half the joy of being in Seoul for us is that we're not doing anything. However the other half is that it just so comfortable. Even though it's not home, it feels like home. Guess there's a genetic marker, cultural imprint, or something that recognizes the place.

Even for the foreigners, I'd say Seoul feels very homey and comfy. It just feels great to be in a city where there's no danger walking around, clean public transportation, and everything is close due to the high density. Movie theaters, foreign restaurants, korean restaurants, bars, supermarkets --whatever you'd need-- are close and generally even within walking distance. And not expensive as well.

I hope it stays this way.

This being said, Busan is even better since it has all of the above plus californian-like weather . The thing missing thus about korean cities is architecture uh uh. But things are getting better in this regard these days.

I agree with you totally. Seoul's architecture is getting much better these days but for some reason I want to color some of those white commieblock apartments in some color and not leave them all white -_-;;; even NYC
I am living in has 50 yr apts but still look pretty artistic lol

that's cuz the architects there in NY built those apts with a design based on style understanding and perspective, if i'm not wrong..
but in korea? just convenience was emphasized.. If anyone look down on those matchboxes comparing to communist states' commieblocks, I can't defend in any ways.
just in recent time,, city governments started to think about design.. Just hope with it.

I'll be experiencing that for 4-6 weeks sometime this fall/spring - hopefully fall, the sooner the better.

yeah I'm excitied to go, that's exactly what I want to experience.

Mussoda thanks for your help so far.

Basically I'm looking for an apartment to rent for a month or a month and a half. Those would be Serviced Apartments. A hotel for 6 weeks is way too expensive. A neighborhood I'm interested in is Jongno. Any suggestions for neighborhoods or apartments?

How about a visitors thread where tourists can post questions?

if you think about Jongno,, Somerset Palace Seoul is closet serviced apt.
http://www.somersetpalace.co.kr/en/index.asp
It's in front of Gyeongbok Palace so you can go easily downtown attractions from there.

and Fraser Suites is closest too.
http://frasersuitesseoul.co.kr/eng/comp/comp.php
It is beside Insa-dong, so you'll get quickly across many attractions of Old downtown such as Insa-dong, Chenggye stream, Royal Palaces, Bukchon and so on.

and another Fraser is in Uiju-ro, Junggu near Seoul City Hall.
http://www.fraserplace.co.kr/
here you can go across easily downtown too. with sightseeing such as Deoku Palace, Jeong-dong, City Hall and next Cheonggye stream, Sejong-ro and so on.

actually, this street of Uiju-ro (not 'Ulji-ro') has many serviced residence including Vabien suites
http://www.vabienseoul.com/
from here you can get in downtown attractions easily too.

about Co-op residence, western co-op and ulji-ro co-op are close to Jongro cuz those are in Dongdaemun.
http://rent.co-op.co.kr/rent_coop/eng/body09.htm
http://rent.co-op.co.kr/rent_coop/eng/body02.htm
but it'll take you quite time to walk into Jongno area, in spite of advantage that you can do shopping easily in Dongdaemun market area if you want.

I randomly picked up these ones, which maybe are not all places in downtown.
If those aren't availabe/satisfactory of those, you can stay at ones in Sangam DMC, Yeoido, Teheran-ro etc,, it'll not bother you staying outside of Downtown thanks to easy public transportations.

Sangam DMC(Digital Media City), the newest central business district in northwestern Seoul. This is where the International Business Center will be built.

These are all contributions from members of Daum Skyscrapers.

I know the PERFECT spot that has an overlooking view of the whole district... but I'm too lazy to replace my lost charger for my digital camera. Anyways, I pass by this area whenever I commute to Seoul, and the district has really grown over the years.
