Vancouver under the snow - Photos from my trip!

I have ended up in Vancouver thanks to the sheer incompetence and absolute shit service of Air Canada
who cancelled 3 of my flights to Seattle in 24 hours
So i was basically shipped to Vancouver and made the most of my time there.

3 flights cancelled? Was it weather-related?

Well, it is the decision of the airport not to fly during snowstorms, and Vancouver's airport is not as well equipped to
deal with icing and snow problems as some other Canadian airports. Icing/de-icing of the airplanes and ploughing of the runways are the major problems.

I'm sorry you got stuck in Vancouver, but, surely, there are worse places to get stuck. I hope you enjoyed your stay.

I am not saying Vancouver is not nice, but i had already been to this city last year

Air Canada by the way is a well known troublemaker

Not to excuse Air Canada's record of bad service... but the Vancouver/Seattle area have recently experienced severe weather problems ... huge amounts of snow, and now that it is warming up, they are getting rain with severe flooding... both east of Vancouver and Seattle.

Well if you must know the cancellation from the Vancouver to Seattle flight that i was supposed to take was because of maintenance. Apart from that, Air Canada uses the excuse of weather problems far too much to avoid compensating customers and given that no one checks on them they can do whatever they want. While all other major airlines cancel flights only for matters of life and death literally, Air Canada cancels at least 20 flights a day for "weather problem"

Well, that could be because it operates across Canada, which gets lots of
"weather problems" in the winter. Trust me, if an airline does not want to take its plane up in a snowstorm, they are doing you a favour. If there is equipment shortages and maintenance (ie de-icing) cannot be properly done, then you do not want to go up in an airplane coated in ice. Too bad you hadn't jumped on a bus and gone to Seattle.. it is very close to Vancouver.

I would have had to pay for the bus ride myself as Air Canada doesnt pay for anything. It's a question of principle, i would rather die than pay for something i shouldn't have to.

But you said, "I was supposed to stay in Seattle for 3 days
and i had already booked my accomodation and 2 city tours
which i never got refunded by the way." So you paid for accommodation in Vancouver, rather than take advantage of the accommodation that you had already paid for in Seattle because you didn't want to pay the bus fair? Maybe I'm misconstruing what you meant.

There's little value being a principled person if you are dead... or shooting yourself in the foot to achieve it.

YVR does not provide any de-icing services. It is up to the airline to find their own de-icing service, which Air Canada did not seem to be too concerned with.

Air Canada blamed YVR because they were desperate to draw attention away from their incompetence. They, at one point, claimed YVR did not have any clear runways, and cancelled all flights...while WestJet cancelled a couple and was delayed for the most part. I guess WestJet must have had magical tires that plow through the snow.

Overall, a PR disaster for Air Canada...they have lost thousands of customers during this time to WestJet.

in any case, I am sure the deicing equipment was stretched beyond its capabilities, and taking off with uncleared runways is a big no no. It stands to reason that there would be many delays at the Vancouver airport during a snowstorm.
